EHX Ring Thing

Post by adamuko »

Hey there, just got the PP2 and everything's powering up except I'm just wondering about my Ring Thing. I've read a few places that it can be powered but needs a current doubler cable? I cant find that on the site anywhere. I'm also from the UK so i'd rather find somewhere over here that may stock it.

Is it also true this can only be used on the 5 & 6 outputs on the PP2? I'm already powering 2 Line6 units with those (although admittedly i might be getting rid of one of those).

Thanks!

Hi Adam, I think this is what you need:

The Ring Thing can be powered from output 5 or 6 on a Pedal Power 2+ with the DIP switch set to Normal using one of the included standard barrel cables.

Sounds Great and Chandler Guitars are Voodoo Lab dealers in the U.K. that should have any Voodoo Lab cables you may need.

Cheers!

ok just doing a bit more thinking about this as i still cant use both Line6 pedals and my ring thing together at the moment with the PP2+

I've read a few places that people have used outputs 7&8 with a Y cable current doubler.

found this which seems to be the right thing. http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/curr ... 1403-p.asp

just wondering if this'll work or not if i use outputs 7&8 or does it really HAVE to use ONLY output 5 or 6?

Thanks

I guess I was taking it a bit more seriously that one of the high current outputs would be freed up soon... ;)

If you are already using outputs 5 and 6 on a Pedal Power 2+ then yes, you can power the EHX Ring thing using a Current Doubler cable from any two outputs with their DIP switches set to Normal.

Can the Ring Thing be powered with the PP2 (NOT PP2+)?

Thanks,

This from EHX:

The red cable reverses the polarity of the power for pedals that take center positive (as opposed to the normal center negative) power, for example, since my EHX Hog takes center positive power, I use it on one of the high current outputs on my PP2+ with a red cable. However, since my SMMH is center negative, I use it on one of the 200 ma outputs but with a black cable.

I didn’t answer earlier because I wasn’t sure of the difference between the + and your version, but since you have the 200ma 9v line six outputs, I think that should be satisfactory, but don’t use the red tipped cable, use the black, because the ring thing is center negative as indicated by the symbol on top of it.

Whenever powering pedals (or anything DC) you need to remember 3 things: voltage, amperage, and polarity.

Yes. Using a Current Doubler cable connected to any two outputs on a Pedal Power, Pedal Power 2, or Pedal Power 2+ will provide enough current for the Ring Thing.

Good Luck!
