Pedal Power 2 plus and Eventide Timefactor

Post by prsrocker »

Hi Board,

Im new here. Please could someone outline to me (step by step) how to power the Eventide time factor with the Pedal Power 2. (I believe its possible, I just have no clue!)

PS - received my PP2 today and very hapy so far... ;)

PSS - Im using the uk version - so doesn't have the courtesy US plug...

You can reliably power any of the Eventide Factor pedals using our parallel cable (a.k.a. Current Doubling cable) connected to both outputs 5 and 6 with the DIP switches set away from Normal. Give us a call or write to info@voodoolab.com to order one. I hope that helps!

Many thanks John.

Now I know.

I will have a Eventide mod factor and Electro harmonix cathedral reverb to power as well.

Have you got any suggestions? It looks like it wont be possible to power all of this using the PedalPower 2 plus...

I thought I saw someone mention they were powering their Timefactor with a little less power thus freeing up one of the variable power outlets.

What would your suggested power plan be for these 3? obviously I'd prefer not to have to buy a second pp2+ so I'd appreciate your opinion.

Thanks John.

I have the current doubler cable from VL, but yesterday I saw a friend of mine and he had his TimeFactor running through slot 5 (set away from normal) with the supplied Line6 Pedal Power cable (red connector into the pedal) and it worked fine. Not sure if you can run both Eventides into one PP2 though. Give it a shot.

Output 5 or 6, when used alone, does not have the current capability to reliably power an Eventide Factor Pedal. There are some that have had success doing this, myself included, but it can fail at any time. The failure will either be not starting up when the Pedal Power 2+ is first powered up or that the pedal may shut down during operation.
The reliable way to power one of the Eventide Factor pedals from a Pedal Power 2+ is to use both outputs 5 and 6, switched away from Normal, combined with a current doubling (parallel) cable.

hi John, i thought that cable would only double the voltage, not current?
A long time ago i posted a question on the forum about how to power an 18vDC crybaby (off the PP2+), where i was told:
Josh Fiden wrote:When you combine outputs in series, you add the voltages. In this case, 9V+9V=18V. Current capacity doesn't change. If the two outputs had different current ratings, then you'd only get the lower of the two.

Does your set up mean you're supplying the Eventide with 9vDC @ 500mA?
i've read they only need 300-400mA so that would definately be enough!

but going off what Josh said i'd have got the idea you were supplying the Eventide with 18 volts @ 250mA.. confusing to say the least!

sorry if i come across as disagree-able -- not trying at all to post contradictions, moreso wanting to make certain of exactly how the power supplies can be safely used, for the benefit and longevity of our much treasured fx pedals!

cheers mate,

@dawesy1986

Don't sweat it, this is the perfect place to ask this question.

These are two different cables.

The Voltage Doubler cable is connecting two outputs in series. This sums only the voltage of the two outputs used.

The Current Doubler cable is connecting two outputs in parallel. This sums only the current capacity of the two outputs used.

I hope that helps!

that's really cool!!! and if you don't ask, you'll never know :)

so i see some people run one Eventide pedal from two normal outlets - 200mA.. (not recommended)
some are running it from one of the L6 outputs - 250mA.. (not recommended)
some are running it from BOTH the L6 outputs - 500mA... (recommended)

could you use the Y cable on outputs 4 and 5 for one Eventide pedal then on outputs 6 and 7 for the other? (350mA ea)

thus powering two from the barrel connectors and a third from the courtesy outlet (ideal for me -- pitchfactor + two timefactors)?

thanks, i really appreciate the help!!

and also have a merry christmas to all on the forum reading!!
