Passive or Active Volume Pedal? HELP!!!

I have the GCP and I'm looking to add a volume pedal to control the overall volume. I'm using active EMG pickups in my main guitars but I also have guitars with no active pickups. Oh Yeah, I want only one power source to power my entire board. So what would you all recommend, Active or a Passive volume pedal that works for my needs. Also need recommendations on cables. Thanks for the help!

If you have a GCP, get an expression pedal and use the volume control on that. I'm always a fan of a basic passive volume pedal, something rugged.

Will you be using the pedal connected to the Ground Control Pro to control volume via a MIDI device in your rig or are you looking to patch the volume pedal into your signal path?

Thanks for the replies guys... And sorry for the major delayed response. Regarding the volume pedal, I need it to control the entire volume of my entire rig. You know for overall volume control and swells. I will be using this with active EMG pickups and I want to make sure it has a large volume range before buying and active or passive pedal. I haven't the slights clue if going through my GCP or in line works the best. You're talking to a virgin when it comes to this stuff. I'm really confused on this one. I've had people recommend both.

Do you have any MIDI gear that will allow you to remotely control the rig volume? If so you can use a passive volume pedal connected to the Ground Control Pro to control the volume via MIDI. Virtually any passive volume or expression pedal will work.

If not, you will have to run a volume pedal in the audio signal path. Ernie Ball makes a 25k passive volume pedal that is for use with active pickups and also would work well in a series effects loop of an amp. A volume pedal connected after your guitar, but before the front of your amp will affect the gain, much like the guitar volume knob. A volume pedal connected in a series effects loop of an amp will affect only the volume, much like a Master Volume on an amplifier.

Hey John, thanks for your help regarding getting a passive or active volume pedal. Now I'm not sure how to answer your question but I don't think I have any midi gear that will allow me to remotely control the rig volume at this point. All I'm using at this stage is my Rocktron Intellifex LTD and a few pedals through my GCX. I also just pickup a Roland GR 55 Guitar Synth which has a built in volume/expression pedal but I will have two separate guitar rigs..... Hope this answers your question. Thanks!!!
