Volume Boost placement?

Post by Jamie »

I'm going to be purchasing the GCX and the GCP. All effects are stomp boxes. My amp is just two channels one clean, one distortion. I use delay and reverb pedals in the efx loop. No efx in front of the amp. I may add a Tube Screamer for more gain for solos. I want to be able to boost the volume when soloing as well. I know putting the boost pedal before the amp will only add distortion. I've heard putting the boost pedal in the loop after the amp distortion will boost volume. My question (s) is, if this is true, should I put it before the other efx or after in the loop?

Putting it before the other effects will increase the signal volume being fed to those effects, which may or may not sound all that good, but Ill tell you the same thing I tell everyone: There is no right or wrong when it comes to pedal placement, so go with whatever sounds best to you.

Personally, I would try it in front first, but I suspect it will sound better if situated last in the signal chain.
