EHX Big Muff Pi, instruction manual vs reality discrepancy?

Post by callahan09 »

I have a Big Muff Pi that I've always just used with a 9v battery, but I'd like to start powering it with my Pedal Power 2 PLUS instead. The power jack on it is weird, different from other pedals I own, and it seems like the 3.5mm mini-plug cable that comes with the Pedal Power will fit in it just fine, but the manual for the Pedal Power says to verify that the polarity is "tip positive" when using this cable. I looked at the Big Muff Pi instruction manual and it says "The AC Adapter must have a center negative plug that fits a
2.1mm center pin"... I'm a bit lost, because 3.5mm mini-plug definitely seems to be the right fit, but then this 2.1mm center pin thing (and it says center negative, vs the Pedal Power manual saying the mini-plug is "tip positive"?) is really confusing me.

I feel like this cable will work but before I plug it in and power on I wanted to be absolutely sure....

I think you just have an older model than what is described in the Big Muff manual you are looking at.

Anyway, the Mini Plug is in fact Tip Positive and will mate perfectly with your older model Big Muff Pi. Plug er in and let er rip!
