pedal power AC question

Post by groovington »

Will my effects tone be affected if the mA don't match up with what the effects require.

I want to power my:

Boomerang (9-10V AC @700mA, however the adaptor that comes with it provides 10V @ 700mA)
Whammy II (9V AC @780mA)
H&K Rotoshpere MKII (12V AC @ 700mA)

Here's why I am wondering if my tone will be affected. I bought my Whammy II pedal on Ebay years ago and have always used the adaptor that was sent with it. Anyway, I never thought the tone was that good, and when I checked the adaptor, it had an output of 1200mA. Once I attached an adaptor with 780mA the pedal cleaned up nicely and now sounds great.

From what I read in the manual of the Pedal Power AC, the outputs it pushes are either 600mA or 1200mA, just seems like not enough, and too much.

All of these can be powered by the Pedal Power AC. The Boomerang and the Whammy each draw less than 400mA.

The difference you hear with the different power supplies, barring something simply being wrong with one of them, was likely the output voltage when under load. An unregulated power supply rated at 9V @1200mA means that when you are pulling 1200mA the voltage will be at 9V... if you pull only 600mA the voltage will be somewhere closer to 10 to 11V. I hope that helps!
