GCX with GMajor Volume Loss

Post by RoyceW »

Hey guys,

I've been running a TC GMajor 1 through my GCX since I put my rack together a few years ago. In that time I've gone from a Mesa Triple Rec to a H&K Statesman and have had volume issues with both heads whenever the Gmajor is activated. It runs mono through the effects loop and all is fine and dandy when I bypass the GCX (by disassembling the entire rack), however when I activate the IA for my GMajor, I lose about 20-30% of my volume. I've rewired my entire rack twice with different cabling, tried using the Gmaj through every loop and have had the problem consistently. It's something that I've just more or less dealt with, but there's also a loss in punch and high end that worries me. Especially prominent since I've started using Telecasters.

Is there any way to get around this, or is this a fault of the TC piece?

Thanks!

Royce

Is the G-Major the only thing in the effects loop? From Effect Send to Effect Return, what is the exact routing you are using?

I'm running a DBX 166A compressor as well. Channel 1 goes in front of the amp for comping and gating, Channel 2 goes through the effects loop as a gate placed before the Gmajor.

Routing is as follows:

Amp Send -> In of Loop 6 (S/R to DBX) -> Out of Loop 6 to In of Loop 7 (S/R to Gmaj) -> Out of Loop 7 to Amp Return

Try running the Out of GCX Loop 6 directly to the Input of the G-Major, then run the Output of the G-Major directly to the Effects Return on your amp... do you still get the same volume drop?

I tried posting a response earlier but somehow it didn't make it in.

In any case, what I would suggest is to try the GM directly in the fx loop and bypass the GCX. I have both a GM and a GM2 and have this issue directly in the loop of my Budda amps.

My thought is that there might be a mismatch of impedance between the GM and the loop.

Hope that helps

Kevin

Oops - just realized you said you already tried it directly in the loop.
