Phantom power forGCP

Post by c diddy 5000 »

I recently switched rack processors, and no longer have the abllity to phantom power my controller. Does anyone know how i can wire my 9v adapter to a 7pin connector in my rack interface?

The GCP will accept 9v across the outermost pins on a 7-pin DIN connector, or the outermost pins (1 and 3) on a 5-pin DIN connector. AC or DC will work, but AC is easier for DIY, because you don't have to worry about polarity.

I power my GCP over a 5-pin MIDI cable. MIDI itself only uses the middle pins (#2, 4, and 5) to send and receive data. I built a short pigtail with a 5-pin male end, attached the middle three pins to the appropriate and corresponding pins on a 5-pin female connector, along with an AC adaptor across pins 1 and 3. The AC adaptor itself is powered from the Furman PL+ in my rack. The male end of the pigtail plugs into my ElevenRack, and a simple 5-pin cable plugs into the female end of the pigtail, and handles both MIDI data and power to my GCP. Easy Peasy.

Alternatively, you could buy a Rocktron 5-pin to 7-pin cable, which also has a power pigtail.
