GCX or RJM for my rig? HELP!
Re: GCX or RJM for my rig? HELP!
OK, so I have a few more questions for you or anyone with knowledge about these products. I'm thinking about getting the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher to channel switch my Mesa Triple Rec Head instead of going thru a GCX unit. I want my GCX to be dedicated to my pedals. Question 1) Do I have to use 4 Separate 1/4" cables or do they make a Multi-DIN connector for the Control Switcher to my Head? I want it to controls ch1, ch2, ch3, solo, and the fx loop just like my pedal that came with my head. Question 2) Can this all be ran by Phantom power via MIDI cables or does it have to be standard 9V power supply modules all over the place? Thanks!
Re: GCX or RJM for my rig? HELP!
The answer to Question 1 is No, you do not need to run four separate cables from the Control Switcher to your Mesa. I don't know if you can purchase an "off-the-shelf" breakout cable with a 5-pin DIN plug on one end and four 1/4" jacks on the other, so you may have to make one up yourself or have one custom made for you. The Control Switcher manual has all the info you need to make up such a cable.
The answer to Question 2 is Yes, you can run all this by Phantom Power. There are jumpers inside the Control Switcher that will let it pass Phantom Power. Once you have the jumpers properly set, you would connect the GCPro MIDI Out to the Control Switcher MIDI In and the Control Switcher MIDI Out to the GCX Pedal In.
I don't own a Control Switcher so don't really know anything about the jumpers other than what I read in one of John Clark's posts. Hopefully he will see this and explain the jumpers in detail.

I'm looking at adding a Volume Pedal but don't know which one to get. Active or Passive?

Personally, I prefer passive volume pedals, but again, that is nothing more than my personal preference.
Click here for a post I found on the Ultimate Guitar site that may help you determine which one will work better for you.
