GCP GCX T-Rex & TC Electronics **** PLEEEEEEZE HELP ****

Post by VHT2100S »

1st of all I do not understand midi at all (sorry...) Please help, the midi instructions may as well be wriiten in another langauage cuz I don't understand most of it. Here's my complete gear list: VHT 2100S amp, VHT 2x 212 Fatbottom S-Cabs, GCP & GCX, TCE G-Force, TCE D-Two, T-Rex Sin Doctor preamp / OD, Roger Mayer Visiion Wah, Visual Sound Volume pedal (set to passive), VHT Valvulator (for buffer function only), Monster Pro 3500 Power - everything wired in stereo according to manuals
T-Rex SD manual:
http://t-rex-effects.com/Default.aspx?I ... VariantID=

TCE GF manual: http://www.tcelectronic.com/media/G-Force_US_net.pdf
TCE DT manual: http://www.tcelectronic.com/media/D2_US_rev_5.pdf

My current CONFIG: Guitar > T-Rex SD > Valvulator (both outs) > G-Force > D-Two > VHT 2100S > 212 Cabs.
GCP Midi OUT > GCX Midi IN + Midi OUT > TCE GF Midi IN + Midi THRU > TCE DT Midi IN + Midi THRU > T-REX SD Midi IN.

The T-Rex SP is factory set for Midi CH 1. I have the TCE GF set to Midi CH 2 & the TCE DT set to Midi CH 3. TCE GF is set to recognize GCP & loaded in the TCE GF I/O Setup. GCF is set to factory settings 10 Presets (again…) nothing else enabled

All I want is to recall my fav presets from The TCE GF, TCE DT, and /or T-Rex SD simultaneously, individually, or in any combination… possibly with 1 or 2 analoge fx pedals in setup, but not a must… is this possible?
All help is greatly appreciated - TIA

I think that if you have been able to get things this far, you know more about this than you give yourself credit for. The Ground Control programming you have left is to first get it configured for your rig, then straight on to creating your presets.

First, name your MIDI devices.
In Setup Mode, go to Device Name/Channel. Here you will enter the names of your three processors and set the MIDI channels the Ground Control Pro to match what you have the processors set to. This is covered in the Ground Control Pro manual in the Device Name/Channel section under Setup Mode.

Second, enable the GCX.
Again in Setup Mode, go to Expanders. and turn GCX-1 On. This is covered in the Ground Control Pro manual in the Expanders section under Setup Mode.

Third, create your Ground Control Pro presets.
Recall any Ground Control Pro preset then press and hold the Edit button to edit that preset. The Bank Down button steps down through the different enabled options. Here you will assign the appropriate Program Change number for each processor and assign which GCX loops will be active for the preset as well as name the preset. This is covered in the Ground Control Pro manual under Edit Preset, Assigning MIDI Program Changes is the section for the processors and Controlling the GCX Guitar Audio Switcher is the section for assigning the GCX loops.

Let us know if you get stuck or have any specific questions about any part of the process. Good luck!

OK... here goes... I named the devices in Device Name / Channel & set the midi channels respectively for each processor... T-Rex SD > CH 1, TCE GF > CH 2 & TCE DT > CH 3. Next I enabled the GCX.

Now I create a preset... ie 01 on GCP & press edit > I disable T-Rex SD by setting program value to "--", set TCE GF to "14" (to recall Stereo Reverb from TCE presets), & set TCE DT at "--" to disable it. Now I name the preset "S Reverb" & save to GCP 01S.

HOWEVER, when I select this newly created preset, The TCE DT still remains enabled and the only way I can disable it is to use the BYPASS BUTTON on the front panel of the TCE DT. The result is the same for any é all presets I create.... so what am I missing here ... TIA

The "--" is not a bypass, it simply means that no command will be sent. If your processors are not being switched by GCX loops for bypass then probably the easiest thing to do would be to create a bypassed or empty patch on each processor.

OK.... that's where I'm confused.... how do you connect to & select the loops ? Do my processors have to be physically connected to the GCX IN /OUTS or only via midi cables? I did have this all setup & working at one point about 7-8 months ago & just recently decided to clear the mem on GCP to create "new" presets & reorganize everything .. I found it hard to believe that I had forgotten everything I had initially learned... but when I ran into these snags I decided to ask the experts at Voodoo Lab for help... in the meantime I also performed all the self test parameters on the TCE processors & everything checked out OK... & I can perform all midi functions normally on the T-Rex SF when connecting it solo.... Hmmmmmm.... is it a possibility that the GCP / GCX is defective? My version on GCP is 1.11 is there an updated version? Could that be the root of the problems? I have always found Voodoo Lab gear to be very reliable in the past but I guess anything is possible... So far this has devoured a huge chunk of my time trying to "re-simplify" my rack setup.... it's been very frustrating to say the least... TIA

The processors will certainly need to be connected via MIDI, they do not need to be in GCX loops unless you want have the GCX bypass them when not in use. There is no reason to believe that any of this gear is not functioning properly at this point.
