Hi there,
Just scored a GC Pro, GCX Switcher and G Major 2.
I hooked everything up, read the manuals back to front, and started experimenting.
I couldn't find anything in the documentation about the global setting, but I figured it only works in IA mode, and gives the PC switches a common global secondary preset. Is that correct?
Next I set about finding out what the setup can and can"t do. This way I can work out the best setup for me. I plan to use the setup to control my Rig, Computer recording, and my girlfriends Vampyre as well.
I downloaded Midiox and hooked up the GC to my computer so I could see what it does. What I found was that the switchers midi out is not a thru. Any CC that controls a relay doesn't appear at the midi out. I worked out that the expander GCX 1 settings are just an easy way of programming channel 16, xmit with preset and CC 80 to 87. So, how can I use an IA switch to control both a GCX relay and a GMajor function at the same time?
What I did was hook up the GC to the Gmajor and its midi thru to the GCX.
Then I programmed the switches using Channel 16 AND CC , with the GCX turned off in the expander setup. This worked fine. I can now make say relay 1 turn on with say chorus in the Gmajor from the same IA switch.
Just curious as to why the switcher is set up this way? No drama, the setup can handle what I need no problem.
Any thoughts appreciated
Cheers

Re: Global modifier and midi thru
This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone wanting to have a GCX loop always switch simultaneously with a processor internal function. The reason the GCX doesn't echo commands intended for it, is that some of the older processors would have problems with large amounts of MIDI data being sent while they were changing programs. This way the processor gets its program change command, then has a little break while it's loading the new program.
