GCXmidi switching and exp control problems.

Post by ChrisPeters »

Hi. I've got 4 GCX units connected, with 2 midi devices after the final GCX unit (an Eventide pitch factor, and then a Digitech Whammy). I have two Tech 21 midi mice connected into the Ground Control Pro (set for the specific channels of their respective devices) to control the program changes on the Whammy and Eventide. All of this works fine. The only problem I'm running into, is this: whenever I switch programs on the GCpro, the programs on the Whammy and Eventide are changing as well. For example, if I switch from lead guitar patch to rhythm (on the GCpro) but I want the whammy pedal to stay put on its particualr setting, it isn't; it switches randomly practically everytime I switch programs on the GCpro. It's almost as if the GCpro is sending out its MIDI info over omni channels. Is there a way to limit the GCpro to one channel? The Eventide and Whammy are set to channels 2 and 4 respectively. I couldn't find anything on this in the manual.

The other problem I'm having regards expression pedal control of these two pedals. Just to whiddle things down, I am using stereo 1/4" cables plugged into the expression port of this pedal (the stereo one): http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... rentId=253

Just to rule out anything, I also attemted using the volume in/outs of the pedal with an insert cable (as shown in the manual) and that had no effect either; the pedals are properly setup in the GCpro to access the correct CC settings for the two pedals, and I can see (and hear) the exp pedals controling the eventide and whammy. Here's the problem: when one pedal is plugged in, it works properly (sweeping from 0-127), when both pedals are plugged into the GCpro the pedals will only sweep from 0-125. This is a pretty big issue, because this prevents a pedal like the whammy from pitching perfectly up an octave (full toe down 127). What is the cause of this problem. Thanks (John) for any help you can offer.

For your first paragraph, you may have confliting PM's or CC's or channels between the devices you are having problems with....I would first double check that you are not sending the same #'s. You might have somehow had the devices learn the same PM's or CC's either from the same or different channels from your foot controller. I would check that first. If that is all good, then I would assign another different CC# to each of your pedals through the GCP and re-learn again....either that or it is the method you are relearning these devices....first make sure that the device is where you wan tit, then make sure that you are on the appropriate footswitch and enter edit and change the CC and make sure to save it in the GCP, then once you are out of edit, use the learn function...do this for each device....hopefully this helps..just throwing out ideas..if you can get this cleared up, it may also be the problem to your other issues.....

First you should check what devices and MIDI channels you have set within the Ground Control Pro. It would appear that you have at least one device location set to send Program Changes on the same MIDI channel you have the Whammy set to respond to.

The problem with the pedals is that likely one or both are connected backwards. Alternatively the pedal may need to have its internal pot rotated slightly, although there should be no interaction between the two pedals normally.
