I'm sure this has been discussed, sorry but couldn't find anything...
Can't get my GCX to switch my amp channels
MY SETUP
Guitar to Guitar in-->Guitar out-->Loop 1, 2, 3-->Out of Loop 4 into my 5150-->then the out on loop 5 for my channel switch.
I did switch between the send and out on loop 5. also switched the ground control to momentary on loop 5. still isn't working. Hoping you can help me.
Also, is the GCX able to run a Line 6 fm-4 pedal, utilizing all four of the pedal options?
Problems with Channel Switching
Re: Problems with Channel Switching
First off... Which 5150 do you have?
Second... No, the Ground Control Pro/GCX will not control the buttons on the FM-4 due to there being no 1/4" switching jacks for these nor any direct MIDI control of the unit.

Re: Problems with Channel Switching
I have an earlier head. But not with the block EVH letters on the front.
Re: Problems with Channel Switching
Well if you are talking about the original Peavey 5150 head then perhaps you need to push the channel select switch on the front of the amp to the "in" position still... the footswitch jack cant be used to switch channels otherwise. What type of cable are you using? Do you also want to control the effects loop bypass?

Re: Problems with Channel Switching
I have a footswitch from a 6505 that i have used before. I never needed to push the front in button. I have tried that and it didn't
work. I am using a mono instrument cable. Stereo maybe? Not gonna use the effects loop.

Re: Problems with Channel Switching
The early 5150 does use a TRS jack for the footswitch so it is possible, although uncommon, that the channel switch is on the Ring connection... When you switch the GCX loop on and off does the Effects Loop on the amp switch on and off? If so then you will need a custom cable or an Insert Cable with only the Ring end connected to the GCX.
The part about the front panel Channel Select switch was straight from the 5150 manual.

Re: Problems with Channel Switching
Ok thanks. I'm gonna try a combination of things. The effects loop is tricky I don't use it at all plus the pedal doesn't have a light to tell me if it's on or off. I'm gonna try the insert cable. If it works, do I run the loop for the input of the amp before or after the channel switch? Also is it more effective to run a noise gate before going into the GCX or can I run it in a loop? Wanna be able to get some feedback on certain patches.
Re: Problems with Channel Switching
The loops controlling audio switching have nothing to do with loops used for channel/function switching. Pick any unused loop you wish for the channel switch.Nova wrote:I'm gonna try the insert cable. If it works, do I run the loop for the input of the amp before or after the channel switch?
Put the noise gate in your signal path wherever you would normally place it, If you want to bypass it then yes, you will have to run it through a GCX loop.Nova wrote:Also is it more effective to run a noise gate before going into the GCX or can I run it in a loop? Re: Problems with Channel Switching
The insert cable worked! Thanks John. My rig is completely functional now!
Re: Problems with Channel Switching
Its been awhile since I've posted. Since last time my rig has been running great. But now I want to use the effects loop. Now my effects loop doesn't work when switching channels. Do I need a custom cable? Been using a Ring/Tip Insert cable.
Thanks
