I have a PX-8 Plus which I use in Loop Strip mode. I'd like to send Program Change messages from an external MIDI controller to turn on or off loops in the PX-8. I've followed the instructions in the manual but can't seem to get the PX-8 to save the loop on/off states for each PC.
Here's what I did:
I enable both PC and CC mode (hold button 1 while powering, LEDs 1 and 2 are lit).
I set PX-8 to MIDI channel 2 (hold button 2 while powering, LED 1 is lit).
I set my MIDI controller to transmit on channel 2 (I've tried using both a Disaster Area DMC-3XL Gen3 and a Squarp Pyramid).
I send a Program Change 0 message from the controller to the PX-8.
The blue LED in corner of the LCD screen flashes a few times, and any active loops are turned off.
I turn on the loops that I want on for PC 0.
I press and hold buttons 1 and 8 for a few seconds. This does NOT flash the LEDs and save the state, like the manual states - it just toggles loops 1 and 8.
If I send PC 0 again, it just turns off all of the loops.
The fact that it clears the loops when I send any PC message seems to indicate that I'm transmitting PCs on the correct MIDI channel, and the PX-8 is successfully applying that PC preset (assuming the default state for each PC is all loops off). However, it does not allow me to save a new loop state for each PC.
I should also mention that CC mode works perfectly fine: I'm able to send CC 80-87 and it successfully turns off (low CC parameter value) or on (high value) the respective loop.
OMG, it actually works! Thanks so much for figuring it out and letting us know, this is a game changer! I can actually start using the PX-8 in my MIDI setup the way I intended over a year ago...
Now, here's hoping Voodoo Lab updates their manual soon to help everyone else out...
