GCP, GCX & Timeline - Preserving Delay Trails

Post by thereverafter »

Hi everyone,

I've recently been building up my MIDI controlled rig using the GCP, GCX, Timeline, Marshall JVM, and a variety of other pedals controlled through the GCX loops. All has been going very well, but I've run into an issue that has left me a bit stumped. Looking for insight or workarounds to solve the issue, or maybe there is some key programming that I'm missing. Thanks in advance!

I have the Timeline switching to its various presets via PC messages from the GCP. However, I have some GCP presets where I need the PC message sent to the Timeline, but need the Timeline to be either "on" or "off" when activating the GCP preset. I initially had the Timeline in a GCX loop and when switching from a preset with the Timeline GCX loop on to a preset with the Timeline GCX loop off, the delay trails would be cut from signal because of the loop being open and then closing, so to speak. That all makes sense, but I'm wanting to be able to switch presets and not lose any delay trails from the previous preset where the Timeline was "on".

What I thought was the workaround was taking the Timeline out of the GCX loop completely and assigning a GCP switch to send CC message 102 to the Timeline, which is the bypass message. Now the issue is that when switching GCP presets and sending PC messages to the Timeline, the assigned bypass switch on the GCP seems to be engaged or disengaged, depending on how I left it last (referencing the footswitch LED on the Timeline to confirm). I did change the CC message function from "normal" to "transmit w preset" in hopes it would be recalled in the state that I want it to be in. This still did not solve the problem, however, when switching between GCP presets.

I'm using the 4 presets per bank mode on the GCP with instant access to the 8 GCX loops. Again, any insight would be super helpful and is greatly appreciated. I plan on adding a BigSky to the rig and would potentially have the same issues with reverb decay.

Thanks again, and thank you for reading!

I'm doing something similar (and it works), but I have three of the GCP instant access buttons reassigned to toggle bypass via CC on the delay, pitch, and mod blocks in my TC G-Major 2. For example I have two 'lead' presets in the GCP consisting of reverb, delay, detune, and a through-zero flanger that use the same G-Major 2 program. In the first preset, the reverb and delay blocks are active while the detune and flanger are bypassed. The second preset is identical except for the flanger being engaged.

Interesting. So when you activate one of those presets on your GCP, do the CC assigned bypass switches start in an "on" or "off" position that you have programmed specifically for each one? If so, is that programming that you've done from your GCP or is it from presets you've made in the G-Major 2?

Thanks for the reply!

Both of my 'lead' presets use the same G-Major 2 program, and it loads with reverb & delay active but all of the other blocks bypassed. I have my IA buttons set to 'Transmit w/ Preset', so I have to make sure I save the GCP preset with the delay IA button set to on, otherwise the preset would load and immediately bypass the delay block. If I remember correctly, it's as simple as setting the IA buttons to the state that I want and then going into edit mode to save the preset.

Hi there, to do what you want, you really need a mixer. Instead of the signal going back to the GCX, it goes to the mixer.
With the G Major 2, all effects block states are set in the G Major 2. If you want an effect on or off within a preset, save the preset in the G Major 2 to a different number in the G Major 2. If you want that instant access light to be on, on the GC Pro, that corresponds to the preset in the G Major 2, tap the button so that it is on, hit the edit on the GC Pro, hit it again, it will ask to save, tap yes. Do this for each preset.

Hope this helps you out.
GCPro, GCX, Pedal Power 2+, Pedal Power AC.
And some other stuff.
