Programming midi with GCP and RG16

Post by DGritzmacher »

Can't seem to get midi pedals to respond. Please review an example of what I am doing and tell me what I am doing wrong.

1. In set up mode on GCP, I established a channel for each midi device (i.e RG16 =1, Modfactor = 2, Timefactor =3, & Whammy = 4).

2. I went to each respective device and set them up to receive on the same channels as mentioned in step 1.

3. I then call up a preset on GCP. In this example, preset 1 has the Whammy turn on through loop 5 on my RG16.

4. Next, I press and hold “edit” to enter that mode.

5. I choose the Whammy device from this menu and tell it to go to “11” which the Whammy manual tells me will activate a specific harmony feature on that pedal.

6. Return to main preset mode and chose preset 1. It does call up the Whammy however, no change occurs on the Whammy. It remains in the same mode as when I started.

What am I missing? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

For a test, connect the MIDI Out of the Ground Control Pro directly to the MIDI In of the Whammy. If it still does not work, then double check that they are communicating on the same channel. If it does work, then add the next MIDI device to the chain and try again... you will eventually likely find either a bad MIDI cable or that one of your other MIDI devices is not echoing the Program Changes you are sending on MIDI channel 4. I hope that helps!

Hello John,

Thanks for the reply. I did as you suggested and was able to get the Whammy to communicate with the GCP directly. After checking all other cables and determining all devices were communicating properly with the GCP, I took another look at the RG16. For kicks I changed my routing from "midi out" to "midi through" on the back of the RG16 and then to my midi devices. That did the trick! As it turns out, I had this one very simple connection wrong. My bonehead move  .

All is well now. Off to dial in my settings. Thanks much for the assistance!
