Can't control 2nd GCX properly

I've hooked up a 2nd GCX to my GC Pro. The problem is GCX-2 mirrors whatever is happening on GCX-1. It's not acting independently of GCX-1. I enabled GCX-2 and created a test preset on the GC Pro. In the test preset I set all but loop 1 'off' for GCX-1 and all the loops 'on' for GCX-2. And still the GCX-1 mirrors GCX-1. While I don't expect to control more than 8 loops at a time with the instant access buttons, I was expecting to be able to save the status of all 16 loops in a preset and see the results on the LED's on the GCX-1 & 2's front panel.

I'm not sure what to try next. I did try assigning instant access #5 to GCX-2 just see if it can control it. But again the lights on the front of the GCX-2 is following GCX-1. In this case there was no change on the front panel on either GCX-1 or 2 since I assigned that instant access to GCX-2. It's as if the GCX-2 is just listening on GCX-1's channel.

Should I reinitialize the GC Pro memory? Will that lose all my presets?

A multi-GCX system requires the GCX units to have the V2 software. Check that both of your GCX units scroll the LEDs from right to left at power up... likely one of them does not. A right to left scroll indicates V2 software in the GCX.

Initializing the memory will restore the Ground Control Pro to factory defaults... all user presets will be wiped clean.

You nailed it perfectly! I definately noticed that GCX-2 scrolls the lights in the opposite direction. GCX-2 goes from right to left. Also, the GC Pro is v1.01

Can I update the GCX myself? I've just ordered the stereo mod for the GCX's so the'll be apart from the GCX-1. Sounds like a good time to swap out an eprom if that's what it needs.

Give us a call or write to info@voodoolab.com to get the replacement EProm for the GCX. It is user installable and there is no soldering required.

You should also have your Ground Control Pro updated and get all the switches replaced. Those early units had some problems with the switches.

...I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you just bought all this stuff a a greatly reduced price from new? That Ground Control Pro is pushing 10 years old and at least one of those GCX units is practically from the dark ages (A.K.A. The 80s). Hopefully they came from a trusted seller. These devices hold up quite well under normal use but it is often the case that these older units have had monkeys tinkering around inside at some point in their life.

The GC Pro is a 2005 unit. I'm not sure on the GCX's until I pull them out of the rack. The GC's switch seem to work very well and not exterior road damage is present.

I called today but couldn't get anyone on the phone. I'll try again now.

If this Ground Control Pro is a 2005 unit then it should not have v1.01 software. By the end of 2002 we were shipping Ground Control Pro with v1.02 and in 2005 we started shipping them with v1.10. Where are you getting the info that it is a 2005 unit and can you confirm the software version?
