can the ground control be my "favorite switch"

Post by cjkbug »

I just finished wiring my rack up so the last 3 loops of my gcx are runnig my delays though a mixer in parallel and it sounds fantastic. thanks so much for your help john. now that I am only using the input and send jacks of the last 3 loops. would it be possible to use the available jacks with an IA button on my ground control to control my strymon delays like using one of their "favorite switches" I believe they work like a control switch on an amp? it would be great to eliminate 2 more cables from the floor to the rack.

You cannot use the remaining jacks of a GCX loop that is currently performing some other function.

Please hold while I find out more about this Favorite Switch... :geek:

 your right it did occur to me that I will need to be using an empty loop. but for the favorite switch function, It would be worth not using my dd3 if I could get one more preset out of my el capistan. I beleive the favorite switch uses a trs jack and shorts the ring to ground or something to that effect. :?:

I just got the word from the kind folks at Strymon on how the Favorite Switch works... and I even got a new schematic to add to my collection of robot porn!

A custom cable that connects the Tip and the Ring of a TRS end to the Tip and Sleeve of a mono end will allow you to use the Out/N.O jack of a GCX loop to engage the Favorite preset. This cable would leave the Sleeve of the TRS end unconnected.

Alternatively, you can do the same thing if you use an Insert Cable with the "Ring" end connected to the In of a GCX loop and the "Tip" end connected to the Send/N.C. of the same GCX loop, however if these connections get reversed there is a possibility of damaging the pedal so be careful with this method!

Good Luck!

The Strymon pedal requires the TRS end. When the pedal is set up to use the Favorite Switch it needs to see the Tip connected to the Ring in order to switch to the Favorite Preset.

I hope that helps!
