Old GCX audio switcher

Post by chalfont »

Hello .

I'm going to by an old gcx audio switcher .
The label on the top says :
Serial n: 2371
Mfg date Mar 1995 made in usa .

I'd like to know if there are any differences between that and the actual model . Expecially if this old model is capable to manage cc messages like the new and if it is fully compliant with the new manual.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards
Massimo

All models of the GCX respond to MIDI the same way. The only major change to the GCX has been the way the front panel jacks work. An older GCX is labeled "Feedthru 1 and 2" where both of these inputs are buffered. Feedthu 1 will split to both rear panel jacks like the Guitar In on the current model does. The vast majority of GCXs are like the current model with the front panel jacks labeled "Guitar In" and "Feedthru" where the Guitar In is buffered and the Feedthru is not.

There are some very old GCXs that will not work in a multi GCX setup without a software change. These are noted by watching which way the front panel LEDs scroll at power up. If it scrolls left to right (Loop 1 to Loop 8) it is a v1 GCX. If it scrolls right to left (loop 8 to loop 1) it is a v2 GCX.

wow .
thank you for the very helpful response in a very short time.
the gcx inputs are both feedthru but i think it will not be a problem 'cos they are buffered .
I'll check the version at the start up .
Eventually how is possible to upgrade the software ? perhaps via midi ?

Thank you again .
