CUSTOMISING THE SWITCHES ON THE GCP

Post by jediboab »

Hi John,

I recently bought the Ground Control Pro and GCX Audio Switcher, have it set up for 4 presets per bank and have connected loops 6, 7, and 8 from the GCX to the channel switching on my Mesa Boogie Mark IV (as these loops are designed for amp switching?) and plan to use the remaining loops on the GCX for the TC G Force, and maybe a few stomps.

I have a basic "clean" preset where I have a clean channel on my amp only with no effects, and as I have connected loop 6 from the GCX to the clean channel of my amp the number 6 switch on the GCP lights up. Is it possible to have switches 1-3 on the GCP represent loops 6-8 on the GCX so that I can use switches 4-8 on the GCP to turn on/off effects??

SO... I want it set so that switches 1-3 on the GCP are for amp channel, and switches 4-8 on the GCP are for turning on/off effects.... is this possible???

Cheers mate

Re programming the Instant Access buttons on a Ground Control Pro is covered in the Instant Access section of the Ground Control Pro manual under Setup Mode. You will want to look particularly at the GCX Loops portion.

Let us know if you get stuck.

Thanks mate, I wondered if it was possible to have only the bottom row of switches on the GCP represent the amp channels (i.e. so that switches 1-8 can be used solely for the effects instead of 3 of those switches being reserved for the amp channels (hope I explained this right) )? I have a G-System that uses the bottom row for amp channels, and the remaining switches for effects and wanted the similar kinda set up for the GCP.

Also, can I connect a Volume Pedal to the GCP and have it control the volume Globaly (or will I need to program each patch)

Thanks, as always. You're a very patient guy

Bob

If you want completely independent control of the amp channels and effects then you would likely need to use something like our Control Switcher to perform the amp channel switching.

With the Control Switcher doing the amp channels, and the GCX doing the effects, you can set any number of the Ground Control Pro presets to only control the amp channels and leave any effect bypass settings that were selected with the Instant Access buttons.

This would be like having a virtual pedalboard in front of you that simply has the amp footswitch and effect pedals mounted to it.

That does help clarify.

You can do exactly what you have shown with your existing gear. Sorry for the confusion.

What you need to do first is go into the Ground Control Pro and re-program the Instant Access buttons. Each Instant Access button can be individually set to control a single GCX Loop or send a Control Change message on any single MIDI channel.
For Instant Access buttons that you want set to control the effects blocks on your G-Major 2, you will want to set these buttons to the MIDI channel the G-Major 2 is set to receive and assign each button a unique Control Change message number. Check out the MIDI Continuous Controller On/Off portion of the Ground Control Pro manual in the Instant Access section under Setup Mode.
For the small bit of programming on the G-Major 2 you will want to check out the section titled The Mod Menu under Operation in the G-Major 2 manual. The G-Major 2 can "learn" the Ground Control Pro buttons that you have re-programmed and assign them to specific effect block bypass.

If you have enabled the GCX within the Expanders section of your Ground Control Pro then the GCX Loops can be controlled with the presets. When editing a Ground Control Pro preset you should be able to assign the Program Change that you will send to the G-Major 2 as well as select the status of the GCX loops. Look to the Edit Preset section of the Ground Control Pro manual for more information on how to do this.

Let us know if you get stuck anywhere. Having the manuals on hand should help you describe exactly where you run into troubles.

Good Luck!
