Hey all,
I'm using a GCP with an Eventide Space, Line 6 M9, and Strymon Timeline. I'm afraid I already know the answer to this... but here goes anyway.
I successfully set up an instant access switch to use as a tap tempo for each individual unit, but can it be done for all units at the same time?
Also, can the expression pedal be set up to send to multiple midi channels at the same time?
Thanks.
GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
You'll probably need to have one device act as clock master and the rest of them sync to it. You'd set your tap tempo IA to control the midi tempo master device.
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Im in the same boat, using the Eleven Rack and M5 with the GCP. Maybe its coincidence, maybe its universal, but both use CC#64 (or was it 46?) for tap tempo. Any chance IA can send on multiple channels? What if a Tap Tempo button was installed in the pedal insert jack on the GCP?
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I need to set both the Space and the Timeline to Midi Thru, and the Space is the only one that can send midi clock. The M9 does not even support Midi Thru, so that one has to be last in the chain. If I'm wrong about any of this, please let me know!
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Do you have a rack setup? If so, I might actually have something that would work for you. It;s an old Akai MIDI translator, designed to take one incoming message, and split it/translate it out to multiple destinations. Originally it was designed for keyboard players to be able to do "zones" on their master controller to other devices before all that kind of stuff became standard in keyboards. I'm not 100% sure it will do this with CC messages, but I can certainly check if you're interested.
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Neither the Instant Access buttons, nor the expression Pedal ports will send Control Change data on multiple MIDI channels at once.
@ adigm- As far as the time sync, mboogman has the correct suggestion... the Space needs to be first so it can send the clock data to the other devices. Was there a different problem when running the gear this way?

Do you use the Eleven Rack without Pro Tools connected? Pro Tools can certainly be the initial clock source, but I am unsure if the Eleven Rack will provide a MIDI clock when used as a stand alone device.chagmaier wrote:Im in the same boat, using the Eleven Rack and M5 with the GCP. i use protools only when recording...but the 11R is mainly used standalone with the pedal board.
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Thanks for the responses. Regarding putting Space first in the midi chain, that's not a problem. However, in order for the midi signal from the GCP to make it down the chain to the Timeline and M9, Space needs to be in midi thru mode, and then it does not appear to be transmitting midi clock.
Re: GCP instant access as tap tempo?
Wow I am really slipping lately it seems
I guess you are sort of stuck for the moment since the Space has a single jack that is internally configured for Out vs. Thru (otherwise a MIDI Merge box would have done the trick).
A MIDI splitter before the Space, with the Space set to MIDI Out, then a MIDI Merge before hitting the next piece of gear would work, if you aren't adverse to using a couple of "widget" boxes.
