GCX in new rack - wiring help from a newbie

Post by Moynesey »

Hi all,

I am in full flight trying to complete my 80/90 rack system and have a GCX with GCP to control the set up.

Midi etc is not new to me but I just wanted to see if anyone could help with the GCX cable patching.

I’ve drawn the following and sent it to Voodoo Labs but had no reply and want to get moving with the set up.

Could anyone tell me if I am in the right track with this wiring diagram please?

Two things I see:
Are you trying to switch the G-Major #1 in and out? And still be on the “dry side” (using for compressor, EQ, but no Reverb/delay?)

I think you want:
G Major #1 left output to go to the 3-RETURN.
“y” from 2-OUT to 4-IN
3-OUT “y” feeds Power Amp and 5-IN
Still need a clean feed to 3-RETURN for when the G Major #1 is bypassed.

For G Major #2:
4-OUT goes to 6-IN.
Eliminate the Y at 5-OUT, just go to 7-IN.

It would be cleaner to bypass the G Major by MIDI, that way you aren’t looping in and out for each one. Also, for wire Routing sake, “pair” 2/6, 3/7 and 4/8 as your stereo pairs, it’ll make a Left side and Right side that’s easy to jumper.

Hi there,
Do you have a line mixer? If you do, this would be really simple to do compared to how you have it. To switch the FX off, you only need to turn the supply, usually just a mono in, off and on. The good thing with running in parallel with a mixer is that your trails taper off slowly and naturally.

I like to switch the send from the preamps to the returns as they have no ground connected instead of the in side to preamps. But I also like to blend preamps. I have been using a Radial ABY Switch as it has a transformer to isolate the second preamp, this stops ground loops.

If you have a mixer please reply and we could help you some more. I’ll have a bit more of a look at what you have and see if I can come up with something, with what you have here.
GCPro, GCX, Pedal Power 2+, Pedal Power AC.
And some other stuff.
