GCX and rocktron switching

Post by Sytravis »

Hi all, I need help. Sorry for the long winded post, but trying to give as much detail as possible.

I recently got a GCX as a present, and thought I would install asap. I use a rocktron all access to control it.
I have the rocktron set up like the following:
Buttons 1-5 are presets
Buttons/switches 6-15 are CN#
Switch 6, CN# 87, GCX loop 8, channel switching TS cable from output of loop 8, to amp. This does not work either.
Switch 7, CN# 80, gcx loop 1, ts9 pedal
Switch 8, comp in multi fx
Switch 9, CN# 82, gcx loop 3, tremolo pedal
Switch 10, pitch in multi fx
Switch 11, CN# 83, gcx loop 4, chorus pedal
Switch 12, CN# 84, gcx loop 5, reverb pedal
Switch 13, CN# 85, gcx loop 6, tc d2 delay
Switch 15, delay multi fx
Switch 16, delay tap multi fx

Patch links are from:
Guitar out to loop 1 input
Loop 1 output to loop 2 input
Loop 2 output to amp input
Amp fx send to loop 3 input
Loop 3 output to loop 4 input
Loop 4 output to loop 5 input
Loop 5 output to loop 6 input
Loop 6 output to amp fx return
Nothing in loop 7
Loop 8 output just for channel switching

I am assuming all midi functions work, as the gcx sees the midi, and when a loop switch is pressed, the corresponding loop led comes on. The multi fx and amp channels change via midi, which is doing what I intended.

I know all Patch cables work, as I have swapped out several times.
I plug into the front of the gcx, and get audio to my amplifier. Switch in loop 1, and no overdrive

I’m getting no selected effects in the audio chain. It’s driving me crazy. I would appreciate any help

Cheers

Hi there,
I can’t really see your picture of the GCX to see what you’ve plugged in where. If you can run us through where you have things plugged in, we may be able to help you some more.

I’d do the connections as follows if using 1 amp, I see you have at least a couple there.

Guitar -> guitar in front -> guitar out rear -> loop 1 in -> loop 1 snd -> TS9 in -> TS9 out -> loop 1 rtn -> loop 1 out -> rear feed thru -> front feed thru -> amp input -> amp fix snd -> loop 2 in -> loop 2 snd -> tremolo in -> tremolo out -> loop2 rtn -> loop 2 out -> loop 3 in -> loop 3 snd -> chorus in -> chorus out -> loop 3 rtn -> loop 3 out -> loop 4 in -> loop 4 snd -> reverb in -> reverb out -> loop 4 rtn -> loop 4 out -> loop 5 in -> loop 5 snd -> TC D2 left in -> TC D2 left out -> loop 5 rtn -> loop 5 out -> amp fx rtn

Loop 8 snd or out to amp channel switching, try both. One is normally open, the other is normally closed.

Hopefully this helps you out a bit, get back to us with some more info to help you out some more.

Cheers

Hi Mate. thanks for the response. I kn9w the photo shows 2 heads, but for this purpose, only one is connected.

below is my signal path from the guitar.
-guitar, to guitar input on gcx
-guitar thru, to input loop 1
-loop 1 send, to TS9 i/p
-TS9 o/p, to loop 1 return
-link cable from loop 1 o/p, to loop 2 i/p
-no pedal currently in loop 2. although i may add soon.
-loop 2 o/p, to amp input.
NOTE: guitar signal works and passes to the amplifier, but activating loop does nothing.

-amp fx send, to TC G force i/p. i dont want this in a loop.
-TC G force o/p, to loop 3 i/p
-loop 3 send, to tremolo i/p
-tremolo o/p, to loop 3 return
-link cable from loop 3 o/p, to loop 4 i/p
-Loop 4 send, to chorus i/p
-chorus o/p, to loop 4 return
-link cable from loop 4 o/p, to loop 5 i/p
-loop 5 send, to reverb pedal i/p
-reverb pedal o/p, to loop 5 return
-link cable from loop 5 o/p, to loop 6 i/p
-loop 6 send, to TC D2 input. Im running the TC in Mono for now

-TC d2 o/p, to loop 6 return
-loop 6 o/p, to amp fx return. All signal works, but activating the loops, no signal passes
-Loop 7 not used
-Loop 8 o/p to channel switching on friedman head. tried from both the send, and also the o/p. channel does not switch

hope that all makes sense
cheers

Hi there,
Do all your other loops work? If you put the Tubescreamer in loop 2, does it work?

Which Friedman amp do you have so I can check this out to?

Cheers

Hi Mate. the other loops do not work either. the signal passes through, just when i switch in or out, the engaged effect does not work.

i use a friedman JJ. footswitch is just TS

cheers

Hi there,
Did you buy it second hand or new?

If it is second hand, I’d pull the top off and have a look, maybe the ribbon cable has come off.

The worst case is, if bought second hand, someone may used it for speaker switching but hopefully not.

If it is new, I’d say take it back to where you bought it

Hi mate, i bought from reverb.com

unit was bought used, but still sealed. was bought back in may, but i only got given it last week.

signal passes through all the loops, but not through the loop send/returns. tried the channel switching on loop 8 from both the send and output, nothing.

i have tried changing cables, but still the same issue.

however, when i press on my foot switch, i do hear a click/clunk. does this help at all?

will open it up, and get back to you

If you are hearing a noise, it means the relay is moving.
When you switch it, does the audio signal cut out?

I’d pull the top off, have a look at the ribbons that connect the switch boards to the control board.
