Ok -- just bought the GCX and the GCP --
Got some stompboxes and a G-major 2.
I printed out some blank GCX worksheets and reviewed the online worksheets ...and now I'm working on my own worksheet. Pen in hand (no not a pencil -- really I just can't find one and need one with a big eraser) -- anyway --
I am stuck already ---- I could probably come up with something that would possibly "work" --- but really looking for someone to just tell me what to do here --- maybe do a worksheet diagram and send it over (please)
I finally learned how to program the GCP with my equipment (thanks John -- for sure! ). I am ready to cable it all together -- but -- I find myself second guessing my "route" to the point where I'm really not sure.
Here is what I have ---
-Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro -- on the floor
In a rack the following:
-Furman Power
-Shure Wireless --
-Korg Tuner
-Voodoo Lab GCX
-TC Electronics G-Major
-BBE 362
-Marshall JMP-1 Preamp
-Marshall 9200
Pedals on shelf in rack
-Boss DS-1 distortion
-Boss CE-2 Chours
-MRX EVH Phase 90
-Ibanez AD-9 analog delay
I also have a Ernie Ball volume pedal mounted next to my GCP I want to get in the mix somewhere. I know I can control the G-Major's volume thru midi -- but I'm not sure I will always have G-Major "on" -- (and I don't know how to do that yet -- programming wise)
It makes sense to me to have the volume pedal connected in the path somewhere versus midi --- (just looking for ideas here) -- however -- that adds to the cords running on stage (I know -- I know...) -- I like the thought of one (midi) cord from the rack to the floorboard.
Long request here -- sorry.
I read that the JMP loop is parallel -- and some recommend not putting the G-Major in the JMP-1 loop because of that (anyone's take one that?). I want to use the G-Major as "stompboxes" but now I find myself running out of switches (because of the 4 stompboxes on the shelf in the rack).
I'm confused again.............
-And where does the BBE go?
-And how can I mute everything and use the tuner on stage?
-And............ (I can go on)
Anyone?? Throw me a route worksheet??

Let's start with a signal flow and ignore the switching for now.cudarea wrote:Ok -- just bought the GCX and the GCP --

Here's what I would suggest for lowest noise and highest quality:
Guitar cable (or wireless) > tuner > DS-1 > preamp (JMP-1) > BBE > time-based effects (CE-2, Phase 90, AD-9, G-Major) > power amp (9200) > speakers
I would hook up the gear without the switching first to see if it gets the sounds you are looking for. The 3 pedals could be in front of the preamp, but it will alter your preamp tone more than if used after the preamp.
Get through this process and we can figure out the best switching.

Re: ROUTE help?? Worksheet --
That would work. I would make a couple of changes:
1. I don't think that jack will feed your tuner (it doesn't on mine). I think you need to use a Y-cable off the buffered jack (or use the first loop).
2. If you are not going to bypass the preamp, I wouldn't waste a connection on it. Just put it in the jumper cable chain between the FX before and after.
3. If you want to have the volume pedal act like the volume on your guitar so it cleans up the signal when you turn it down, leave it where it is. If you want it to act like a master volume and leave your delay trails, put it after the BBE. If you want a full master volume, put it before the 9200.

Re: ROUTE help?? Worksheet --
Thanks Jeff -- very helpful.
The tuner will work coming out of the feed-thru for me --
So -- I have the G-Major in a loop -- can you tell me how to use it (G-Major) as stompboxes? Not quite sure on that -- (yet) -

Re: ROUTE help?? Worksheet --
I don't have one, but midi controllers should be able to turn each G-Major effect on and off. These would be controlled from the GCPro Instant Access switches. Just assign the correct midi channel number (same as G-Major) and the correct controller number for each effect.cudarea wrote:So -- I have the G-Major in a loop -- can you tell me how to use it (G-Major) as stompboxes? Also, I would put the phaser before the chorus.
Re: ROUTE help?? Worksheet --
cool ---- got it -- Phase before chorus -- I'm almost there --
There is allot of stuff here (a least for me -- I am used to using a Johnson JM250 modeling amp so all these loops, effects and stuff get confusing -- but I'm getting it) --
I bought some George L cables and some Monster cables. The George L will connect the stompboxes in the drawer and the wireless to the GCX. The monsters will connect the volume pedal - the speakers from the 9200.
I also have some 2' cables I thought I would use to hook up the G-Major -- Tuner - JMP-1 - BBE - 9200 -------- etc. THESE ARE BALANCED cables ----
Are those balanced cables OK to use here??

Re: ROUTE help?? Worksheet --
Balanced cables should work OK, but will not give you the benefit of balanced lines if either of the devices they are connected to are unbalanced.
If you end up with ground hum/noise issues, the EBTech rackmount hum eliminator works miracles for everything in your rack (it also converts unbalanced to balanced). The 2 channel version may be all you need if you just have one or two noisy items.
