Help! What does this mean? Orig Ground Control question
Help! What does this mean? Orig Ground Control question
At soundcheck yesterday everything was fine- came back for the gig 5 hours later and every light on the Ground Control lights up and it won't work! Tried two other good midi cables and unplugged it from the GCX and tried the original power supply to no avail.
Any suggestions?
thanks
Billy

Actually, switch 2 (LED 4) isn't lighting... would a burnt out LED cause this?
Pulled it apart and checked for unseated chips, cold solder joints, and such, but everything looks fine...

Did the reset as per manual- unit went completely blank. An hour later back to all lights lit except for LED4...

I see you have already opened it up and checked that chips were all seated, I will have to say that the cold solder joint search was destined for failure...Although it has died now apparently, it has functioned for many years, therefore, no cold solder joint. One thing to check would be for a cracked lead on the frequency crystal that is directly below the 40-pin chip. If one of those leads is severed then you would get the random behavior you are seeing. If it is severed, re-solder the leads and glue the frequency crystal down with some silicone glue. If that does not help then you should give us a call to discuss sending it in for repair. Good Luck!

Re: Help! What does this mean? Orig Ground Control question
In thinking about it overall, I found a second one on ebay to get me through gigs and such. (Hopefully, it's revision 2.4) But then I'd like to get this one sorted- I'll look for the cracked lead but is the non-working LED of any concern?
I'd love to have a GC Pro but unfortunately I often play barefoot and the buttons on the Pro are non-friendly compared to the pads on the first generation... I tried one out once and limped for two days and the bottom of my foot was one big bruise!

Until the unit is functioning again, there is no way to tell if the LED in question is in fact not working.bclaire wrote:In thinking about it overall, I found a second one on ebay to get me through gigs and such. eww, perhaps we don't want this in here for repair!bclaire wrote:I'd love to have a GC Pro but unfortunately I often play barefoot and the buttons on the Pro are non-friendly compared to the pads on the first generation...
