hi, apologies if this is a noob question (couldn't find another thread answering my problem!) ....
i'm racking my FX (for a few simple on/off loops) and want to use the GCX switcher (combined with the ground control) to control my Eventide Timefactor in my amp's FX loop... how do I turn this (or any other) delay pedal on/off, without losing the delay trail-offs? i'm assuming when you turn the loop off, the pedals output is out of the loop so any trail offs are therefore lost from the signal.
is there a way around this?
many thanks!
Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-offs :)
Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
In this case it would likely be best to control the bypass state of the TimeFactor directly using its MIDI In rather than put it in a GCX loop. This way you can still take advantage of its ability to do the spillover. A Ground Control Pro Instant Access button could be assigned to control the bypass. If the Ground Control Pro Instant Access button is also set to Transmit with Preset, you will be able to pre-program the bypass state as well as have direct access.
A mixer would be required otherwise in order to run the delay in parallel and use a GCX loop to mute only the delay's input signal.
I hope that helps!

Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
Very proficient answer thanks! So would multiple switches on the ground control allow me to bypass/activate different presets on the Timefactor?
Ie I could set up several switches on the ground control that each trigger different presets on the delay pedal via midi?

Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
The Ground Control Pro preset buttons will send the necessary Program Change messages in order to call up the different numbered patches on the TimeFactor. A Ground Control Pro preset can actually control up to eight MIDI devices in this way while simultaneously setting the loop status of up to four GCX switchers.mbubz wrote:Very proficient answer thanks! Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I am looking for help in this area as well. Is a mixer necessary or could you just tie the bypassed signal to the delay pedal's output. Would that effectively sum the two signals while using the loop to mute/unmute the input to the delay, or would it cause problems?
Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
"Tying" the dry signal with the effect output is "mixing" and would require a mixer in order to combine the signals properly. What device are you wanting to use in parallel?

Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
It is a Boss DD-6 Delay pedal. I was looking into an ABY combiner after the delay, to sum the bypassed signal with the delay trails after the loop was switched off (bypassed) but after looking at the schematic for the Morley passive ABY combiner, all it's doing is coupling the two signal paths, with no buffereing or isolation. As I don't need the A/B switching, I though I could save the space by simply jumpering the loop return (delay output) to the bypassed output. This seems too easy, and probably is, but what problems could that cause? I am still waiting for my GCX to arrive, so this is all theoretical, but I am trying to get a head start on piecing this system together.

Re: Racking Delay pedals, still need to hear delay trail-off
I think I have answered my own question. An active mixing system is required to avoid the impedance issues inherent to a "jumpered" or "y-cable" approach. I am now looking into the Boss LS-2 Line Selector as a solution. Bypassed signal into Loop ret A, Delay output to Loop ret B of the LS-2 set to A+B mix mode, and the GCX to route my signal to the Delay input or around it. Output of the LS-2 to Amp FX return. Should acheive spillover this way.

oops, sorry I left you hanging... but you got it!
Let us know how it goes once you get this all set up!
