John,

Got a response from Line 6. Here it is and they even did a video. Let me know if this makes sense to you.

Hey buddy, I am here. We saw this and did a quick video showing how it works with the Ground Control. I am personally a midiot. So check out this video and let me know if it helps at all.

This video demonstrates the ability to recall POD HD Pro presets and control its models enabled/bypassed states with a Ground Control Pro.

Ground Control Pro + POD HD Pro Video

This was fairly straightforward to set up.

Simply at a "5" to the front of the footswitch number for each CC. In other words:

FS1=CC51
FS2=CC52
FS3=CC53
FS4=CC54
FS5=CC55
FS6=CC56
FS7=CC57
FS8=CC58

Make sure each footswitch is set to "Normal" mode in the GC Pro. This setup is also using 4 PRST/Bank Mode and offset the GC Pro to start it's Program Changes to start at 0.

Set up the preset on the POD HD Pro and the GC Pro to synchronize the enabled/bypassed states as desired and save the presets you've programmed on both units.

Some people have complained that the POD HD Pro is not set up to always turn off models by hard coded 0-63=OFF, 64-128=On but this is due to the flexibility of the POD HD Pro. A single footswitch can be applied to toggle multiple models, allowing "Macro" type control with a single footswitch action.

also received this from their resident midi guy

"The implementation we’ve adopted actually should be a benefit for him. If he wants to turn off a delay or verb but have the trails remain, while simultaneously turning on another effect like a distortion or something like that – he can do it with a single switch! If we only responded in the typical MIDI paradigm he’s described he’s have to use one switch for the delay and a second one for the distortion. As I’ve shown in my YouTube video, it is NOT impossible to predict and/or automate the enabled/bypassed state of POD HD effects as long as you set it up correctly."

It was my understanding that you set your Ground Control Pro up like this already and had problems, but lets just start fresh...

Program your Ground Control Pro as follows:

Setup Mode
-Device 1 = POD HD Pro using MIDI Channel 1. Set the Starts At number to 0.
-Instant Access Buttons (all set to Normal)
1 = CC51 on CH 1
2 = CC52 on CH 1
3 = CC53 on CH 1
4 = CC54 on CH 1
5 = CC55 on CH 1
6 = CC56 on CH 1
7 = CC57 on CH 1
8 = CC58 on CH 1

Once that is done, exit Setup Mode so you can recall Ground Control Pro presets.

To make the Instant Access button status match the effects that are active on any preset:

1. Call up the Ground Control Pro preset that you want to edit.
2. Press any of the Instant Access buttons that should be "on" for this preset.
3. Press and hold the EDIT button.
4. Once the Ground Control Pro screen changes, press the EDIT button again.
5. Press the YES button to save the changes.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each Ground Control Pro preset that has active effects.

In this case Ground Control Pro buttons 1-8 will control POD HD Pro buttons FS 1-8. Perhaps what they are trying to convey is that any one of the "FS" buttons can be programmed to change the state of multiple effects at once within the POD HD Pro itself?

yeah. i was already doing it that way. the real problem is that trails do not roll over between presets and at this point that could be fixed in the next update or not and i don't have time to mess with that. i've got gigs and such coming up. looking like i'll be investing in a tc g-major 2 and just call it on the pod hd pro.

I am aware of the preset change cutting off the tails. We are not testing that. We are attempting to test the responce using Instant Access buttons, and in order to use them correctly you still have to have first recalled a preset that calls up a known patch on the processor.

The question I still have is are you able to assign more than one effect to be controlled by one of the FS buttons within the POD HD Pro itself?

I'm not sure. It seems by the video you can. I'm not sure I understand their thinking on this one. They can talk about macro changes all day long but it plain just doesn't work for me. I guess maybe it does if you have a Variax and a DT50. Maybe they are trying to make it so their gear is proprietary. I still love Line 6 gear but I just gave up and bought a Digitech GSP 1101. I need something that works and cannot wait for possible updates and who knows when.
