They are the same. My first GCX had the DMC label on it - my next one had the VoodooLab label...

That is not entirely accurate... The DMC is older and I believe does not (or at some versions) have a buffered input. The VL ones have a "guitar in" and a "feed thru in", and the guitar in is buffered. Or it could be that both inputs on the DMC version are buffered... In any case, not exactly the same. I have one VL and one DMC and they are different on the inputs.
Gear List:

'87/'88 Ibanez Sabre's (7), '86 Ibanez PL1770, Budda SuperDrive 18, George L's Cables, Barber Direct Drive (best $99 ever spent!), Rodenberg GAS-828, Nobels ODR-1, Morley Bad Horsie II, TC Electronic G-Major II, Ground Control Pro and GCX...

My GCX is a DMC with a buffered guitar in, and a feedthru in, same as the VL.

When you start the GCX, watch the direction the loop lights scroll, right to left is the newest firmware version. IIRC that would also be the newest hardware version as well, regardless of "brand".
