Click noise when changing presets

Post by KLO »

Hi..
I recently purchased GCX + Ground Control Pro and now I have finally had some time to test my new gear. I was thrilled about the concept until I discovered a rather loud click noise when changing presets.
My units are powered through a Furman power conditioner and my stomp boxes are powered from Pedal power 2.
For now I have only run 2 TS808 and a Keeley compressor in loops 1 - 3 (I was only testing the system).
As I mainly play through larger PA-systems the click noises are something that I can´t live with.
Is there some way to minimize or get rid of these noises?
Best Regards
KLO

Does the pop differ between using the Guitar In vs. the Feedthru? How about connecting the guitar directly to the input of the first loop? Does removing any of the pedals change the pop? You may also want to try routing the buffer after the pedal effects. Try breaking things down to the simplest setup that still yields the problem and let us know what you find.

i have found that any audio loop with the gcx pops, regardless of what units are being switched. The loops before the amp only pop when being turned off, but those in the loop pop when turning on or off. both with or without buffer. is this due to the kind of relays used in the switching of audio loops? all gear is run from the same power conditioner and all is high quality gear. switcher powered from pedal power AC. all pedals from pedal power 2 and ac. does the same on any amp ive tried.

Hello,

Is someone found a solution for this problem, because i have the same since a few week, same configuration than before but a big "pop" and hum when i activate or desactivate a GCX loop with a pedal connected. I tried to change cables after try one by one direct in the front of the amp, use only one pedal, try with another one, plug the guitar in feedthru, direct in the first loop, change the power supply ... even reset the GCP, but the "pop" and the hum are always there.

Thanks for your help, best regards.

Hello! Your problem is identical to mine! Virtually the same configurations.
The mine continues with the loud clicking noise ... The only thing that reduced the loud clicking noise was put feedtrhu after my pedals and before the amp, but still when I use big PA systens the problem is quite serious ... What year is your grond control?
I believe blindly that there grond control and GCX problems in their relays, because I was so discouraged with this problem I went back in store I bought my grond control and gcx and tested more two systems and both have the problem, important detail is that I tested with these other two equipment and not mine, so my equipment has no problem.
let's see what we can

sorry my bad english

hi,

Sorry for the time response, and don't worry for your english, it's not my mother tongue.

I don't know how old they're really because i get them used, but work fine. I got them since a year and i'm decived because it's what i need. I'll try to evaluate the price for a good repair with maybe better quality parts and let you informed for all of that.

I must point out that the Ground Control itself is not part of the pop, it is simply a MIDI controller and it does not interface the audio signal in any way. There also has never once been an issue with the relays that would cause this. The GCX loops are 100% passive. There is no need for anyone here to open up their GCX in order to guess which parts can be upgraded in the hope that somehow doing so will fix the problem. Careful setup and attention to details is what will reveal the problem area here.

True Bypass switching almost always has some small pop. If it is really bad then the likely source is what is known as a DC offset. This is usually due to a "leaking" capacitor or an improper ground reference within one or more of the pedals. Basically, the output of the culprit pedal(s) will have a measurable DC voltage.

One of the above posts mentions a hum also. This is likely due to a Ground Loop somewhere in the setup. Unless the Ground Loop issue is resolved first, you will likely have all sorts of noise issues. Try isolating things from the rack rails and check for any pedals that have metal-to-metal contact with each other or other parts of the rig.

As in my first post, the thing to do when chasing things like this is to simplify the setup down to the smallest form that still yields the problem. Start simple and build from there until there is a problem then report back here with the exact connection details. I hope that helps!
