Gcx, GCP, diezel amp and pedals
Hi there, I am putting new rig together of 8 pedals which will be through the GCX. I want to switch them on and off or combine them without making presets, so I figure I just press the edit button and leave it on GCX1 and turn them on and off? However, I am running a diezel herbert as well. Am I right in thinking I can't use the ground control for the herbert in this way? As it will change amp channel every time I turn on an effect? I can't set it to use the pedals on and off with buttons one to eight, and amp channels with the next four buttons 9 to 12? Would I be easier with another midi footswitch for the herbert?
Re: Gcx, GCP, diezel amp and pedals
Setting up your rig as described should be rather simple.
Since you said you don't want to make presets for your pedals, configure your GCPro for 4 Presets/Bank mode as described on Page 15 in the GCPro Owner's Manual. This mode will let you use the bottom row of 4 buttons to change Presets on your Herbert and the upper two rows of buttons to turn the GCX Loops On and Off, and thus control your pedals as desired.
Make sure you connect the GCPro to the GCX first and then run a MIDI cable from the GCX to the Herbert. I would verify with this with Diezel, but since you are not supplying Phantom Power to the GCPro via the Herbert, you should be able to safely use a 5-Pin MIDI cable from the MIDI Thru of the GCX to the MIDI In of the Herbert.
Program the bottom row of 4 buttons on the GCPro to change presets on the Herbert following the programming instructions on Page 16 of the GCPro Owner's manual and the instructions provided in the Herbert Manual. You have 36 banks of 4 presets each on the GCPro, so just program however many you need.
Hope this helps...

Thanks for the help. Really hoping that works and is simple. Only thing I am unsure about is if the Ground control midi will affect the herbert when I activate the pedals. Or will only the 4 preset buttons change that.
Re: Gcx, GCP, diezel amp and pedals
Because the GCX only responds to MIDI signals on Channel 16, working your pedals will have no effect on the Herbert, and vice versa. You can simply program the bottom row of 4 buttons on the GCPro to send MIDI signals to the Herbert on any of the other 15 channels and you'll be good to go.lame guitarist wrote:Thanks for the help.
