Are you able to successfully control Tempo if you plug that same tap tempo box directly into the Pedal Jack on the Nova System?

It only has a pedal input thatyou can use an expression pedal or their g switch with.. so i guess the answe is no..

I wish I could help with your Tap Tempo MIDI issue, but all the searching I did only revealed you are not the only person looking for an answer to this issue. However, I can offer an alternate solution which is somewhat less elegant but should do the trick.
The G-Switch is just a simple 3-button foot switch that works with any standard Stereo cable, so there is no proprietary magic going on. I found a schematic and it performs various functions by momentarily shorting out the Tip/Ring, Tip/Sleeve, and Ring/Sleeve conductors.
Given that, you should be able to control Tap Tempo with your existing Tap Tempo box using an appropriately wired cable. After determining which combination (TR, TS, SS) activates Tap Tempo, Take a standard TS cable however long you need to get back to your rack and replace the plug on the rack end with a TRS plug wired with the necessary "Tap Tempo" conductors. It's another cable, but I've done this successfully with other gear so it should work in your case.
