Saving FX loop into Preset

Post by Lano469 »

Ok I think I'm just missing something here. I have a 5150 III 50 watt with a GCX and a GCP. I have it all hooked up and everything is switching as planned. The only issue I'm running into is saving the FX loop instant access into a saved patch. I have a pretty simple setup, 6 pedals in a drawer, and 3 basic patches. I use 6 of the 8 buttons at the top to instant access the pedals via the GCX and 3 out of the bottom 4 control my amp. So along the bottom of the GCP starting at 0 or the grey #2 is my clean with a few effects turned on, #3 is Crunch with a few effects, and #4 is the OD channel #3 with a few effects.

On the top, instant access #8 controls my FX loop. I'm trying to basically get the FX loop to stay on all the time from patch to patch. When I go in to edit mode on say #2, if I turn on instant access button number 8, it turns on the #8 on the GCX and not the FX loop. I know I'm probably missing something easy I hope and any help would be appreciated.

In order to resolve your issue, we need to know how you are connecting the GCX to the 5150. Seeing as how the 5150 has no MIDI capabilities, how are you changing channels on the amp?

The 5150 III 50 watt does in fact have midi capabilities. Midi cable out from GCP to GCX, out of GCX into 5150. This is from the 5150 manual...which i've done all of this and I can control the amp via the GCP and like I said I assigned the instant access #8 button to turn the effects loop on and off which works. I just want to know how to save it in my preset so the loop stays on all the time.

To set up and use MIDI for channel selection:
1. Press both channel SELECT buttons {E and I} simultaneously to
enter MIDI "Learning Mode." The current amp channel LED will
start to blink.
2. Send any desired Program Change message on any desired
channel from your MIDI controller to the amp. The amp channel
1 LED will start to blink unless you have previously assigned
that Program Change message to a different amp channel, in
which case the previously assigned channel LED will start to
blink.
3. Select the target amp channel (1, 2 or 3) using the channel
SELECT buttons {E or I}. All three amp channel LEDs will briefly
illuminate to indicate if the amp channel assignment has been
changed for the Program Change message sent (if the amp
channel assignment has not changed, which would be the case
when assigning amp channel 1 to a Program Change message
for the very first time, the three amp channel LEDs will not all
illuminate briefly because the amp channel assignment has not
changed from the default amp channel 1 assignment).
If the Program Change message is currently assigned to amp
channel 1 (default), you will have to press channel SELECT {E}
twice to select amp channel 2. If the Program Change message
is currently assigned to amp channel 2, you will have to press
channel SELECT {E} twice to select amp channel 1.
4. Repeat steps 2–3 for each channel on the amp, if desired. You
can also assign multiple Program Change messages to the
same amp channel for more flexibility.
You can use the Footswitch to temporarily change channels at
any time during MIDI set up and it will have no effect on saving
the amp channel assignments. All channel assignment changes
must be made using the front panel channel SELECT buttons {E
and I}.
5. Once you are done setting up MIDI Program Changes, press
both channel SELECT buttons {E and I} simultaneously to exit
"Learning Mode." The amp is now set up to switch to the target
channels whenever the selected Program Change messages are
sent on the selected MIDI channel.
The default MIDI channel for the amp is channel 1. You can
change the MIDI channel for the amp by sending a Program
Change message from any other desired MIDI channel during
Learning Mode. The amp will then only respond to Program
Change messages and Control Change messages on that new
MIDI channel.
To use MIDI for effects loop bypass:
1. No set up is required. From MIDI channel 1 (default) or the
channel that was used to send Program Change messages in
the section above (if different from MIDI channel 1), simply
send a Control Change #85 message with a value of 63 or less to
bypass the effects loop or a value of 64 or more to enable the
effects loop.

My bad. When I looked at the 5150 iii rear panel image I thought, because there was a 1/4" foot switch jack, that the MIDI In connector was a 5-pin DIN connector.

Try opening a couple of presets in Edit mode and setting IA button 8 to On. Then save the presets and switch between them. IA Button should stay on, which is what you want, and if that works just do the same with all your presets and you'll be good to go.
