GCP+GCX 8 loops using only 6 IA buttons?

ran into an issue with my rig last night, i finally got my cable kits so i could start wiring things up.

my rig goes like this.

guitar -> outboard pedals (wah,tuner,whammy) -->shelved pedals in gcx loops 1-6 --> preamp 1 in loop 7, preamp 2 in loop8. ---> t.c. g-force-->stereo power amp -->cab.

so on my gcp, i have IA button 1, controll loop 6, and IA buttons 2-4 controlling fx bypasses on the G-force. at this point i dont have enough IA buttons for the GCX loops.

TL:DR can gcx loops be switched on/off by midi patch changes via the GCP?

Thanks!

You can have however many IA Buttons you want active or inactive within a preset. You just have to open a preset in Edit mode, set the IA buttons to the desired state, and then save the preset. Repeat as often as necessary with the rest of your presets.

If you create presets that have your G-Force effects active or inactive as needed, you would not need to use your IA buttons to perform that switching task, thus freeing them up to control GCX loops.

i'd rather have the g-forces fx's as IA's, when i'm playing its easier to just kick in an effect for a few measures then turn it off, rather than paging to a new bank and switching presets. i only use presets when more than 1 effect needs to be changed at any given time. OR ideally when i wanna switch pre-amps.

i'd like to have the pre-amps in loop 7 and 8, be turned on and off with preset changes, but not be tied to IA buttons, freeing up IA's for other loops. also as a side effect that would make it impossible for me to hit the pre-amps accidentally and possibly turning them off or on a bad times.

its not so much a problem with the GCX, but the GCP, can the GCP send arbitrary midi commands on preset changes? like midi #16, controller #86, Value 127?

I hear what your saying, but unfortunately GCPro buttons, both IA and Preset, are not capable of sending multiple MIDI messages.

Do you ever use both pre-amps simultaneously? If not, Diagram 2 on Page 8 of your GCX Manual will show you how to free up a loop, but I doubt freeing up a single loop will be of much help. Otherwise, I don't have any other suggestions for you, other than buying a second GCPro and running them as Master and Slave. As it stands now, you simply have more things you want to control than buttons available to control them.

that was basically the conclusion i had come to myself, i was hoping i was missng somthing.

thanks for confirming.

i'll probbaly try the 2 preamp, 1 loop option.

Feature requests...arbitray midi messages being sent with patch changes. :D

OR a smaller GCP pedal expander. or a larger one, GCP-P.

so would this work with another GCP?

Yes, you could get another GCPro and slave it to your existing GCPro, but when you consider the additional expense involved and the fact you'll need twice the room on stage for them, that may not be an optimal solution.

I'm curious about this, and hope John Clark or someone else more knowledgeable than me will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong, but have you seen the Tap Tempo Pedal Build for the GCP thread, which is a sticky at the top of the this forum's index? I'm wondering if, instead of a Tap Tempo device, something like this might be used as an additional IA button? If so, a pair of these might work for you.

i was also thinking of building something that sits between the GCP and GCX and intercepts and re-writes midi messages to make it do what i want.

i guess ultimately i just need a more fully featured controller.

unfortunatly its hard to plan these things when you sort of have to buy these products blind since no shops really stock them.

I think you can get two additional IAs with two Mission TT-L switches (http://missionengineering.com/?product=mission-tt). In the demonstration video, http://youtu.be/15V0oGJskvI, they use the switch to control the tuner function. However, it would work with one device only...
