Electric Guitar, Accoustic Guitar, G-Major and GCX

Post by Damageplan »

Hi there,

I'm currently planing a new rig.
The GCP and the GCX seems a very good solution for my plans.
After reading several very informative topics here in the forum I got one question left unsolved.

Is it possible to feed two guitars into the GCX (one electric guitar and one accoustic guitar)?
I need this because in some songs of my band i need to switch between both guitars on the fly. So is it possible to programm one preset using electric guitar going straight to my amp and another preset using my accoustic guitar going straight to the FOH?

I think it must be something like this wiring diagram:
http://www.voodoolab.com/gcxdiagrams/12 ... ar_Rig.pdf

Is it possible to use a G-Major II for both guitars also?

So for example Preset 1:
Electric guitar -> GCX -> G-Major II -> AMP (accoustic guitar bypassed)
and Preset II:
Accoustic guitar -> GCX -> G-Major II -> FOH (electric guitar bypassed)

Thanks for your help!

Greetings
Matthias

It can be done I suppose, although you will likely have more problems finding neutral level settings on the G-Major2 that will work with each guitar on the fly. Really all you are doing is sharing the G-Major2 between two different rigs. A pair of GCX loops used as A/B switches could accomplish this, one to select the active guitar and another to select where the output of the G-Major2 goes. Your Ground Control Pro would then need to be programmed with electric presets that are seperate from the acoustic presets. I hope that helps!

Hi John,

thanks for your answer.
So what di you think, could the setup in the attached picture work?

So when i'm playing the AccGuitar only loop #7 is enabled.

Thanks again and cheers

Your setup would route the signals as needed, however now that I see you want to use the effects loop of the amp I think there is absolutely no way you will be able to set the input and output levels on the G-Major2 so that it sounds right in both rigs. Also, I don't know if the G-Major2 can process two mono signal paths as you are trying to do... the original G-Major can't, but the G-Force can. You can certainly try it out as nothing would be damaged using it that way, but I think you will find in the end it would just be better to find a second processor and keep the audio path of these two rigs separate.

Hi John,

thanks again for you answer.
I think that your suggestion with the second processor for the accoustic guitar would be the better way!

So another question i asked myself:
When i put another processor into another loop and route the signal from the accoustic guitar and then have only this loop enabled, is the other path which the electric guitar goes through completely muted then?
I ask this because in some songs i have to switch between guitars i have no time to pull the volume of the guitar down.

Cheers

Hi there,

besides my last question about the muted signal path in my last post (which i still don't have any answer for ;) ), i stumbled across another thing which i read here in the forum.
I've read, that it is possible that the GCP can show the status (on/off) of the effectblocks from the G-Major.

I found this:
To make the instant access button status match with effects that are active on a given preset:

1. Call up the Ground Control Pro preset that you want to edit.
2. Press any of the Instant Access buttons that should be on for this preset.
3. Press and hold the EDIT button.
4. Once the Ground Control Pro screen changes, press the EDIT button again.
5. Press the YES button to save the changes.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each Ground Control Pro preset that has active effects.
So do I understand this right?
When you lets say switch from preset #1 to preset #2 on the G-Major, the GCP will show you, what effects are enabled in the second preset after switched to it?

To get this thing to work will i need a secend midi cable which goes from midi out of the G-Major to the midi in of the GCP?

Thanks again!

If you would like one rig to mute while the other is active you can use another GCX loop to do that. Send your signal to a GCX loop Input, then run the GCX loop Send to the signal destination... when the loop is on you will get sound, when the loop is off it will mute the signal. This is shown in the GCX manual under Muting Sends in the Audio Loops section.

This will make any Instant Access button LED match the status of effects, so if you call up a patch with chorus and delay the Instant Access button LEDs for chorus and delay will light up. You will not need to connect a second MIDI cable for this.

Thanks again John!
This setup is getting more and more attractive compared to my G-System which i'm currently using.

Cheers
