I'm running two GCX's, one is a DMC version and the other was purchased last summer, with a GC Pro. Here's how it's set up:
Guitar In>Guitar out(back of unit)>Barber Tone Press>
Loop 1-Fulltone Fat Boost>
Loop 2-Barber Gain Changer>
Loop 3-Fulltone OCD>
Loop 4-Eventide Time Factor>
Loop 5-Fulltone Deja Vibe>
Loop 6-Q Tron>
Loop 7-Leslie 760 Speaker>
Loop 8-To pedal board(CAE Buffer>Digitech Tuner>Whammy>Crybaby 95Q>Line 6 Delay Modeler)>
2nd GCX Loop 1-POG2>
Loop 2-Ibanez TS9>
Loop 3-H&K Rotosphere>
Loop 4-Voodoo Lab Tremolo>
Mesa Boogie Blue Angel 4x10 Combo
Tone Press, Fat Boost, Gain Changer(18 volt), Time Factor and Tremolo are all powered by an ISO 5. Other pedals powered by their respective wall warts. Pedals on pedalboard powered by PP2. Then a Furman Rack Mount Supply and Furman Plug Lock.
I am having an issue with the Tone Press and Fat Boost losing volume. I cannot get anywhere close to a unity level. They are both hooked into the newer model GCX I have. This was never an issue before. The GCX's are connected via a midi cable. What am I missing? How much affect does cable impedance make? I used Mogami 2319 and soldered my own cables. Also, any advice on pedal order is appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.
GCX Buffers too much.....?
Re: GCX Buffers too much.....?
I suspect this isn't really a cabling issue, but seeing as how you wrote "This was never an issue before" I think the best way to start troubleshooting would be to look at what has changed between your "before" and "after" connections.steelydanfan wrote:I am having an issue with the Tone Press and Fat Boost losing volume. Re: GCX Buffers too much.....?
Is there any difference between the DMC GCX and the newer VL version? The two different units are the only x-factor.
Re: GCX Buffers too much.....?
I'd just try it without the buffer in line. Compressors typically don't "like" a buffer ahead of them anyway.
So on GCX #1, instead of using the Guitar In/Out, connect the guitar to the front panel Feedthru, then connect the rear panel Feedthru to the In of Tone Press.
Is the Tone Press always on?

Re: GCX Buffers too much.....?
Thank you Gentlemen. Another question; I would like to assign a button for tap tempo on the GC Pro for my time factor. Would it be best to use it with the midi cable or just use the aux switch on the time factor and assign it to a loop on the GCX?
Re: GCX Buffers too much.....?
Both ways will work, so it would just be a matter of your preference. If it were my rig, rather than using a loop that could be assigned another task, I'd favor using the MIDI Cable.steelydanfan wrote:Thank you Gentlemen.
