If your GCX has the front panel jacks labeled Guitar In and Feedthru then the only significant difference is the screen printing on the front panel. If your GCX has the front panel jacks labeled Feedthru 1 & 2 then it is the original GCX from around '96 and has the dual buffer setup with no hard wired pass through.

Its the older unit with the feedthru 1 and 2.
Does that mean i we just get a little colouring to my sound vs a newer unit?

It just means that both front panel inputs are buffered. If you do not want to use the buffer you can connect directly to the Input of the first loop you are using.
If you are using this for guitar effects before the input of your amplifier it is likely that you will want to use the buffer in order to keep a consistent load on your pickups rather than changing the load depending on which device is the first in the chain of the currently selected loops. In other words, the buffer may color the sound, but it will be a nice solid, even color rather than a randomly selected color from a random color palette.

so could i not just open it up and remove the one buffered side and connect it to the input of the first loop?
Then i could plug into the front.
