Presets and controlling external MIDI devices

I read the manual and can't find anything on this.....

Can I run 4-Preset/10 IA mode and have various combinations of all 8 loops programmed into the 4 presets AND have the remaining 8 IA buttons controlling a MIDI device with presets?

To make this more clear I'm considering getting a digital delay that can select presets via MIDI (this would not be in any GCX loops but AFTER the GCX. Can I program something like this?:

Preset 1 Overdrive
Preset 2 Chorus
Preset 3 Tremolo
Preset 4 Noisegate
Instant Access 1: Digital Delay Preset 1
Instant Access 2: Digital Delay Preset 2
Instant Access 3: Digital Delay Preset 3
Instant Access 4: Digital Delay Preset 4
Instant Access 5: Digital Delay Preset 5
Instant Access 6: Digital Delay Preset 6
Instant Access 7: Digital Delay Preset 7
Instant Access 8: Digital Delay Preset 8

You can certainly recall combinations of the GCX loops from the preset buttons and have the Instant Access buttons re-programmed to do other tasks, however the Instant Access buttons will send MIDI Control Change messages so I am not too sure you can do exactly what you listed in your example. What is the delay unit you are attempting to control?

Thanks John. I'm looking at getting the new BOSS DD500 digital delay. Think this will work with my proposed idea?

The DD-500 presets will need to be recalled using MIDI Program Change messages... this would be done with the Ground Control Pro preset buttons.
You can set up three of the Instant Access buttons to mimic the three buttons on the DD-500, A, B, and Tap. You can also set up Instant Access buttons to control the looper controls. The DD-500 manual shows what Control Change messages are associated with each button/knob/parameter.

I would suggest setting it up so the Ground Control Pro presets recall the appropriate GCX loops and the desired patch on the DD-500 at the same time, then have four Instant Access buttons to directly control the four GCX loops and the other four Instant Access buttons to control bypass and the three DD-500 buttons so you would have Bypass, preset A or B and a Tap Tempo button at all times.

It looks like you would want the Instant Access button for DD-500 Bypass (CC 21) set to Normal, while the ones used for DD-500 buttons A (CC 82), B (CC 83), and Tap (CC 84) should be set to Momentary.

Thanks John. I will have a good read of the boss dd500 manual. I'll be able to make a decision on my upgrade now, thanks!

Hi John,

I tried this setup, and it seems like for the DD500 buttons A, B, CTL it needs 2 CCs to work.
For On it wants 0 then 127
For Off it wants 127 then 0

If I set it up as described it will eventually trigger the button on the dd500 if I push the IA button repeatedly, because it will eventually send a combination of the commands that the dd500 than understands.

Hopefully I am missing something that you can help out with

Thanks,
Colin

That looks to me like its just a latching type action to remotely control these buttons via Control Change. Have you tried setting these Ground Control Pro Instant Access buttons to "Normal"?
