GCP, GCX and Px-8

Hi, I just added a PX8 to my system. For several reasons, I need to run the PX8 before the GCX. In that config, the PX8 shows as GcX1 and the GCX shows as GCX2 on my GCP. So far, so good, but this also means that I have to reprogram all patches, because the GCX is now #2 instead of #1. Does anyone know a trick to change all patches so that the GCX1 settings are changed to GCX2 settings?

Thanks!'

Thomas

You said there are several reasons why you need to run the PX-8 before the GCX, but could you please elaborate on that? It would help us get a better understanding of your particular situation and make it a lot easier to offer resolutions. Describing your signal chain would also help.

Thank you. The reason is simple: I have the GCP and the PX8 next to each other on the floor and I dont want to run the midi cable from the GCP to the rack and then again back to the PX8.

My (simplified) signal chain is as follows:

Guitar -> wireless -> pedalboard - > rack -> speakers

Thanks for your help!
Best,
Thomas

Here is an excerpt taken from one of John Clark's posts in another thread:

"Once you enable a GCX (or multiple GCXs) in the Ground Control Pro under Expanders, the Ground Control Pro sends a MIDI SysEx message to auto configure how the GCX units will respond. This MIDI SysEx message assigns the Controller Number set for each GCX in the MIDI path. The first GCX in the MIDI chain gets assigned as GCX-1, the second GCX as GCX-2...

Basically, the Ground Control Pro auto configures the GCX units so you don't have to worry about what Channel or Controller Number each one uses.
"

Unfortunately, I can't find anything that says copying GCX 1 settings to GCX 2 within a GCPro is even possible, and given the above - which is also found in the PX-8 manual - there doesn't appear to be a way of reversing their positions.

But hey, this is just a forum. I strongly suggest you contact Customer Support to see if they might be able to help you out.

You might check with support and see if you could wire it GCP 》PX8 》GCX but set up the PX8 as a generic MIDI device and send it messages on Ch 1. Just a thought.

Thanks, guys! Will check with support or simply re-program my patches (which may be more efficient :)).

Best,
Thomas

This is a good idea, definitely worth asking support if it's possible.

If you go into the MIDI programming on the PX-8 and set it for "CC Only", and to use CCs 88-95, it will then respond as "GCX #2" even when it is first in the MIDI path.

Look to the Enable MIDI Messages and Select MIDI Control Change sections under Setup in the PX-8 Manual for detailed instructions.
