Running Eventide H9's in w/d/w rig with GCX and pedal switch

Post by joecar »

Hey All,

Trying to figure out how to do this... I have a pair of Eventide H9's that I am looking to run in a w/d/w set up. Running a GCP with GCX. Have 4 stomp boxes on the first four loops of the GCX then running from the GCX out after loop 4 into the front of the amp. From the Amp speaker out into an ISO line out box, from the ISO, into the GCX in just before loop 5, then nothing actually in the loop for 5, but the line out just after 5 goes to my pedal board where I have a Voodoo Lab pedal switch, with an EVH flanger in the first loop, and was hoping to put the H9's tied to the pedal switcher to use those loops, and then running back from the pedal switcher to the input just before loop 6, where I then have a reverb pedal and take that line out into a stereo power amp, which is only being utilized in mono at the moment.

I am running everything through midi as well, and know the H9's work with midi. I am expecting delivery of a 3rd cab in the next few days, and trying to figure out how I need to run the H9's in stereo for the rig so I can get the most out of the delays and the harmonizing effects. The H9's have two outputs for stereo abilities. Question 1, can the Pedal Switcher be used for stereo, since everything running out of the pedal switcher will feed the wet amps. Or Am I going to have to pull them out of the pedal switcher loops and run them to the GCX, and if so, how do I plug them into the GCX to run in stereo and out to the stereo power amp. Looked through the charts posted on the main GCX design section... But some of the acronyms means nothing to me, so it's not translating into my scenario. Any guidance would be great... Thank you!

PS. should also call out, that while I know the H9's have midi capabilities, I would prefer to use the midi for changing presets only, and running if possible each one into a loop on the GCX if the pedal switcher won't work... So I can toggle the pedal on and off with ease just like the other stompboxes, and configure pre-sets with ease as well.

The Pedal Switcher does not do stereo routing. The GCX can actually be converted to stereo. A single Stereo Upgrade Board will convert four of the loops (we usually do this on loop 5-8) to stereo using TRS jacks. I am not too sure you need to do this however since the stereo pedals we know of so far in this rig are directly MIDI controllable AND have true bypass relays.

I would probably just run the H9s outside of either switcher and use MIDI commands to control them including the Active/Bypass state. I'm not seeing in the other thread.... what is the Reverb pedal you are using?

Also, I don't see where you are getting your "Dry" signal... Is the "ISO box" just going between the head and it's speaker cabinet?

alright, so then I would just need to set multiple midi messages from the GCX to the H9's. Yes the dry signal is coming straight out of the back of the amp, through the ISO into the dry cab, and the line tap is going directly into the wet effects and then into a the stereo power amp (currently running in mono until the new cab gets here). For the reverb I am using a TC Electronics HOF, regular one, not the mini, which can be run in stereo.

So if I send the ISO signal straight into the first H9, then run both outputs from first H9 into both inputs of the 2nd H9 I could then run both outputs from the second, technically straight into the stereo inputs on the power amp, and just figure the MIDI messaging piece out. But that then pulls the reverb pedal out of the GCX loop in the rack and moves it to the pedal board to run straight into from the second H9, since it needs to stay last in the chain. So cannot control it as part of any preset. I guess maybe not the end of the world since it is mostly always on. And the H9's can do reverb also.
