Which order do you wire your rack in?

Post by wizard_23 »

So I've just about got everything together for my rack build, but I'm suffering from dreaded indecision about which order to wire things in. I had started on the midi but then moved the location of the T8 to the back rail.

I've also done all of the patch cables to connect the 2x GCX's but now it's time to put things in place and settle on a design and this is where I'm struggling.

Perhaps it doesn't even matter, but I wanted to get some feedback from others that have embarked on this before.

To be wired:
Midi
240v
DC Pedal Power
Pedal tray patch cables

Which order would you wire them in?

Here's the layout I'm going with, it's 14 RU.

As an aside, pedals so far:

With midi:
Line 6 M9
Boss DD500
Eventide H9
Whammy V

Non-midi:
EHX Small Clone
Timmy
Klon Clone
Fulldrive 2 Non-Mosfet
Jordan Bosstone Fuzz Clone
Boss OC2 Octave

Pedals to come (once I can afford them!):
Empress Compressor
Fuzz Factory Clone
EHX Lester G

I suppose I do tend to run all the power cables first, but it certainly isn't a rule. I mostly do it that way so I can test things as I start adding the audio cables.

I hope that helps!

Yeah that makes sense for sure, thanks John!

I got the back panel bits and pieces in place last night so I think I'll run midi and power at the same time and then do the DC pedal power, finish with audio runs.
