Ground Control Pro V1.13 & Eleven Rack

Post by markorth »

I am new to the guitar MIDI & recording world, having just purchased a DigiDesign Eleven Rack along with a Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro v1.13. I initialized the GCP with 10 presets per bank but not all 140+ Eleven Rack presets loaded into it. In fact some of them loaded more than once when others are missing. After numerous tries I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get all the presets down to it.

How do I not only get all the current presets down from the Eleven Rack but how do I create a new one and call it up from the GCP? Anyone willing to help a newbie?

Thanks
Mark

MIDI has "only" 128 unique program changes. What you are seeing is that there are more than 128 preset locations in the Ground Control Pro as well as on Eleven Rack. After the first 128 Ground Control Pro presets the MIDI Program Changes start over which is why you are seeing Eleven Rack patches repeated once you recall Ground Control Pro presets in the highest banks. Normally the solution is to map sounds in the processor that are above 128 to lower numbers, which works great if you have up to 128 total sounds you want to recall.

Alternately:
In order to access to all presets without having to resort to mapping then you would need to send a bank change command. There is an upcoming update to the Ground Control Pro that not only does this but it even has a special Setup that pre-loads all the Eleven Rack preset names in the Ground Control Pro. Aside from the bank change, there is nothing that cannot still be done with the software revision you currently have.

I've just purchased the Eleven Rack, and I was wondering if Voodoo Lab has any specific dates as to when they will be releasing the unit / software upgrades that will complement the Eleven Rack?

Is it just the software that will be needed for upgrading, or will the hardware differ from the available and existing Ground Control Pro?

Can you tell that I'm new to this as well? :D

Thanks in advance for your quick response and best,

Mark

I definitely want to get my hands on the update for the GCP. I love the 11R and want to get it going now with the GCP.

When is the update coming?

The current Ground Control Pro software will control Eleven Rack. The new software will add the ability to select the preset bank and will come pre loaded with the factory preset names. The upgrade is a replacement chip that can be user installed into any Ground Control Pro.

Yes, I know the GCP can control the 11R. Please see my original question, plus when will we get the update that you have mentioned now in your posts?

Thanks

To answer your question more clearly...

You can move the patches by Mapping the desired patches down to the first 128 patch locations or assigning a patch in a higher bank to be recalled by a MIDI Program Change between 1-128 within Eleven Rack.

After creating a new Eleven Rack patch you will be able to assign the MIDI Program Change that will allow it to be recalled. A Ground Control Pro preset will recall this patch by programming it to send the same Program Change number. This is covered in the Ground Control Pro manual under the Edit Preset section.

The new software is coming soon... I do not have a final date to give you. It is our every hope to have this software ready to show off at the upcoming NAMM show.

Thanks John! So, we will get the SW and HW updates for the GCP as registered owners? I only bought mine back in November.

The only "hardware" change is that you will remove the chip that has the old software on it and replace it with a chip that has the new software on it. We will make the upgrade process as painless as possible for all users. Once the new software is ready to ship there will be an announcement as well as all details about how you can get one for your Ground Control Pro.

I'm going to go back to testing this software now so it can get finished. Keep an eye on the announcements section for any updates.

Hi John,

What is the latest on this update? I know NAMM is happening soon.

Thanks
