GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Guys I’m really sorry. I’m beyond frustrated and I’ve read pages and pages of threads here and I just can’t make heads or tails of things. I really need someone to simplify this for me please. I’ve never been so angry in my life! So I hope I. Can make this issue clear.
Gcx loop 1 OD pedal
Gcx loop 2 OD Pedal 2
gcx loop 3 chorus pedal
Gcx loop 4 boost pedal
G-major 2 rack mount midi channel 1
I have the GCP set up for 4 presets.
1. Clean (no loops on)
2. Dirty (loop 1 on)
3. Solo/delay/reverb/boost (loop 2/4 on and feed to g-major for delay/reverb)
4. Same as above but different delay
The tap button works on 3 and 4 to control delay tempo.
I have tried a few variants:
1. running the gmajor completely in my Mesa boogie loop
2. Running the major in a gcx loop and back in to my boogie
My problem is: I want to set the top left as an I/A button for pitch. In the IA menu I have set that button to midi channel 1 and pitch is my 3rd preset. If I run the gmajor completely in my boogie loop, pressing the GCP button doesn’t work and the gmajor stays on all the time (so my pitch is always on). If I run the gmajor in to the GCX and back in to my loop, I thought I would have to turn on that loop (loop 5) and then press the new pitch button. Turning the loop on defeats the point. Now I’m tap dancing again. The IA button doesn’t work to turn on the pitch, so I go to the gmajor to dial up preset 3 for the pitch and now the pitch turns on but then it says on all the time regardless of pressing the buttons. I don’t understand because you can see the “midi in” flash on the gmajor when the button is pressed and the tap tempo button works fine. I’m doing something wrong here.
TL;DR
HOW DO I MAKE AN IA STOMP BUTTON TO WORK TO TURN OFF AND ON AN EFFECT! Press the button, effect on. Press it again. Effect off.
Edit: sorry if this makes no sense. I’m on the verge of smashing everything and my head hurts. I’m happy to send a vid or something to someone for help.

Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Hi firsttimer,
The first thing you need to do is set up the GMajor2, you need to choose the Midi channel it will use, then set it up so that you can use CC msgs from the GC Pro to turn effects on and off.
I’m not near one at the moment but I’m pretty sure it’s the mod button below the global button, you need to scroll down with the arrows till you find the effect you want to control with a CC msg, then use right side toggle till you get to a CC number you want to use. I use button 5 for chorus so CC5 or 05 turns it on and off, I use button 6 for Reverb so CC6 or 06 turns Reverb on and off. You can use whichever number you wish for whichever.
Once you have setup the G Major2, it’s time to go to the GC Pro.
Now to select the Midi channel the G Major2 will use, go to setup, device/channel, set it to whatever you wish and name it whatever you wish.
Now to setup IA. Go into setup, go to IA. Once in IA, go to the button you wish to use for a certain effect, use the down button to go past all the GCX then you get to CH01 CTL004, change the ch to the channel that you have set the G Major2 up as. Then change the number to the same number you chose for the effect you wish to use, I chose 005 for Reverb. Then arrow to the right and make sure it’s on normal. Then do the same for all effects you wish to use.
I hope this helps you out, I won’t be home for a couple of weeks as I’m on a cruise, if your still having trouble I’ll be able to help you more then.
Cheers Brett

Thanks Brett! I have sorted out some stuff here... but having some other issues that I can’t explain on here. I have to find a “guy” in my area to help set things up. Enjoy your cruise.

Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Oh john. That would be great. My local music stores are NOT educated on big set ups (and mine isn’t even a big setup)! I’ll give y’all a call real soon!
Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Did you get this figured out?
I have mine setup with a G Major 2 as well and I have stomps in my GCX loops.
1-GMajor Filter
2-GMajor Mod
3-GMajor Delay
4-GMajor Reverb
5-OpAmp Big Muff
6-OCD
7-Laney Amp channel
8-Tuner Mute
I don’t use Pitch because I have a Whammy DT on the floor that I use Midi to change its program, Comp is setup via the preset, so it’s either on or off depending on what Preset I’ve picked.
Funny as frustrated as I was putting this all together (I feel your pain) I’m about to at an EH Mod Rex and I’m quite puzzled on where to grab the Midi from that will plug into the pedal.

Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
No. I’m trying to sell all the stuff now. I’m not sure if my unit was faulty. But I finally got it set up but it was functionnaly not working properly. I took it to a local music store and they agreed it was setup right but could figure out why it wasn’t performing right.
Basically, I had to power off and on the unit 3/4/5 times before my voodo Lab pedal recognized it was connected to press buttons. The buttons some times stopped working. And my I/A buttons were programmed as a stomp box setting running effects through the gmajor. My 4 buttons were programmed as clean, dirty, dirty lead with delay, dirty lead with delay. When I would switch between clean and lean and back to clean, the delay would remain on the clean channel when it should have been off.
I got too frustrated figuring this out. Plus a rack is stupid big and heavy. Voodoo labs is not for me. I will buy a pedal board and switcher for easier use.
If anyone needs a GMajor II to add to their set up, PM me! Half price!

Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Wow, yeah it definitely sounds like you had a faulty system. You’re running pretty much the same as mine, although my 4 patch buttons are setup for presets, my presets all go back to a quiet clean tone and I run effects and stomps individually with the IA, only so live I can call up the preset before the song starts and then turn on whatever I want. The presets have different parameters per effect.
That sucks man, going with a floor switcher on my pedalboard with my pedals was my 2nd option as well if I couldn’t get this all figured out.
Good luck on the next venture.

Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
Thanks pal. I had my setup too complicated for a cover band anyways. But now I’m stuck with gear no one wants. The G Major II is HIGHLY overrated. The effects are average at best.
Re: GCX/GCP + G-Major 2 IA buttons
GM2 is hit or miss. It’s super in-depth with effect parameter control but some of the effects are lackluster.
I use quite a bit of delay, I have a DD6 on the floor but I hate resetting knobs so I just use it for certain stuff and the GM for others. I already replaced its filter and mod section with a Mod Rex lol, so it’s primarily for Reverb, Comp, some minor eq and control over my input/output levels. I also have a Whammy DT and CAE Wah on the floor and 2 gain pedals in the rack for grit diversity.
