1 GCX and pedal switcher possible? ... but not using GCP

Post by mainlymusicman »

hello,

....john c. if your here you'd probably have some ideas for me on this, you helped me a few times before with my gcx rig diagrams....

firstly, i just sold my axefx and went back to all pedals...

i have a gcx which i use to control my digetech whammy pedal, and i have all 8 loops used with pedals in my gcx . i was thinking, since i only need 3 or 4 more loops, is it possible to add the pedal switcher, half the price of a gcx, (in my rack) and control it via midi along with my gcx and whammy???

as it is now i dont have enough loops in my gcx so id have to put my extra pedals on the floor in my pedalboard, which looks alot cooler, but, doesnt enable the possibility of creating presets encorperating ALL my pedals. which is the concept i want to base my rig around.

as far as the foot controller - ive got an all access, but im going to a liquid foot pro right away, which has like 16 IA's i think - awesome.

no offense to the GCP, but 8 aint enough....switches.

im also using an axess electronics crx4?.. somethin or other.. to control the 3 channels of my amp, so i dont waist 3 gcx loops on the amp channel switching.

of course there are some effects i have no choice but to keep on the floor;

Mark Tremonti wah
boss rc-2 looper
rocktron talkbox
tuner - korg pitch black....
pedal power 2 and (pedal power AC - for the foot controller and talk box)

but can this be done???
keeping in mind im using the axess control switcher as well.

id really like to be able to put all the cool pedals i just bought( EH micro POG, polysaturator, push-pull octa fuzz, etc) into a rack and set up presets with them

??????

The Pedal Switcher works exactly like 1/2 of a GCX. There is no problem using a Pedal Switcher and GCX together. If you are using a Ground Control Pro, these automatically work together. With the All Access or Liquid foot, we can provide you with an alternate ROM for the GCX to force it to use GCX#2 cc numbers. Alternately, you can program a sysex message into the foot controller which will do the same thing.

The Axess CFX can be assigned to cc numbers which don't conflict with GCX or Pedal Switcher. It works fine with these.

thanks. actually ive since decided to go with 2 gcx's. and i just bought a second chip for the 2nd gcx.

incidently, do you know if its possible to mod the gcx to jumper the loops so you dont have to add all the extra cables required to go from the out of one loop to the in of the next??

how hard is it to do yourself?

i think it would make things look alot simpler on the back of the gcx.

Yes, it is possible. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't do it yourself. Also, if you want to use the loops in a different manner later, for example, some will go in the amp's FX loop and some with pedals in front, or using some for channel switching, you'll have to go back and reverse the mod. It's probably easier to just run the jumpers between each loop and keep the option of isolation.
