Hi, I know this has been covered in the past, but I have attempted to have this cable made twice and I have been unsuccessful. Has anyone had any luck making the custom cable that connects from the 6505+ to the GCX to control the channel switching functions? These are the instructions I provided
In this case pin 4 would be the common that pins 5, 6, and 7 would short to or disconnect from in order to activate or deactivate or toggle the functions. If you were to make a cable to control everything you would use a 7 pin DIN connector on the amp end that breaks out to three 1/4" ends. The common (pin 4) would connect to all the sleeves of the 1/4" ends. Each of the function pins would connect to a different Tip of the 1/4" ends. You can omit any function you don't want to control. Also, in this case, pin 3 should be connected to pin 4 on the DIN connector so the amp knows there is a "footswitch" whenever the cable is connected.
Pin 1. +17VDC supply to pedal
Pin 2. not used
Pin 3 Ground this pin to detect the footswitch.
Pin 4 Ground
Pin 5 Activates the crunch function of the clean channel when grounded. 1/4 end
Pin 6 Turns the EFX loop on when grounded- 1/4 end
Pin 7 Selects between the clean and lead channels( Lead when grounded). 1/4 end
Can anyone advise if I am missing something in these directions that I have supplied for the cable builders? Thanks!

Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
Should be a pretty easy setup for hooking up channel switching with a 6505+ and a GCX. When I used mine - the 7pin DIN went to a single TRS connector and I used a Hosa YPP-136 to split the tip and ring which was connected to one GCX loop (IN & OUT). I'm not aware if you can switch any other functions - without the amp footswitch - besides just switching between Green and Red channels.

How were you connecting to the GCX? The cable, if made as described above, would require you connect to the Send/N.O. Jack of three different GCX Loops. These three loops should have no other cables connected to them.mesaman12 wrote:Hi, I know this has been covered in the past, but I have attempted to have this cable made twice and I have been unsuccessful. Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
I have the 7 pin din split out to 3 "1/4 mono plugs to control the amps functions. Do I need to have split in to TRS cables? I was plugging the mono cables in to the free loops of the gcx as described above. It's driving me nuts trying to figure this out. Thanks!

Could you tell me how you made the 7pin DIN to single TRS connector? All I am wanting to do is control the amps channel switching functions. Thanks
Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
I suspect it would be a simple matter of first determining which pins control the channel switching, then cutting the end off of a 7-pin MIDI cable and wiring those particular pins to a TRS connector.

Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
The TRS end is unnecessary and would only be capable of controlling two functions, as well as further require an adapter cable to interface with the GCX.
On the cable with the three mono ends, was Pin 3 of the DIN connector shorted to the common ground?
Also, was the proper DIN numbering convention used? Here is an example of a 7 Pin DIN jack...
This is the Ground Control Pro MIDI Out, but you will see the pin numbers on the diagram. If you have a continuity tester, check that the proper pins connect to the 1/4" plugs and that Pin 3 is connected to ground. You may also want to check that ground is connected to the outer sleeve of the DIN plug.

Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
Thanks for the input. I sent those instructions to a cable company to make the cable and it still did not work. The only function I am wanting to control is the channel switching. Do you know what kind of adapter cable would be necessary if I just went the route of having 7 pi DIN to TRS cable made. Thank you!
Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
If you would like, send me the cable(s) you already have and I should be able to make it work. Then you would only need to plug in the ends that you wanted to have function, but would have the ability to add the other functions if you wanted to later.
If you only want channel switching then you would only need a single mono 1/4" plug. The connections would use the same instructions that you already have, but omit the connections for the Crunch (Pin5) and FX Loop (Pin6).

Re: Peavey 6505+ Custom Cable with GCX Help
I am waiting for the company to return the 7 DIN to 1/4 TRS cable to me, and if that does not work I will send it you. Thank so much. You guys are awesome!
