88-95 (Latching)
112-119 (Momentary)

Check with the manufacturer of your controller if you are unsure if your controller will send user definable SysEx messages.
John,

So, I can leave my midi connections daisy chained together, and send the sysex, and my other gear will be unaffected, and only the GCX units will be listening to this message and change the 2nd one in the midi chain to respond to CC 88-95?

Do the units have to be midi connected directly adjacently to one another, or due to rack routing, can I have an effect, a gcx, 2 more effects, and a gcx, and the 2nd one will still receive this special sysex?

Again, I don't want this sysex to somehow be the secret code to disable one of my other units!!!

Thanks for clarification of how this really works!

Sorry for the delay!

SysEx messages are manufacturer specific. Your other gear will not respond to our SysEx message. In order for the message to configure both of your GCX units properly, they would both have to be in the MIDI chain at the time the message was sent. They should not have to be connected together, however I cannot say for certain that whatever gear you have between the GCX units will not filter out the message.

In order to use a GCX with another controller you can do one of two things.
One is to put a custom chip into the second (...third and fourth) GCX that will assign a different set of Control Change messages for each GCX unit.
Another method requires a controller that can be programmed to send SysEX messages, then you would only need to send this hexadecimal string after powering up the system...

F0 00 00 07 01 08 10 F7

The above SysEx message will auto configure the GCX units to each respond to a different set of Control Change messages.

I hope that helps!
As a matter of interest, do Voodoo Lab supply these chips and if so what is the cost?

Of course you resurrected the one thread on the topic where I don't say how to get the chip(s)

We do provide the customized firmware chips.

For current pricing and availability on any parts, please feel free to give us a call or write to info@voodoolab.com.

I hope that helps!
