Sending control change messages TO the GCP (and GCX)

Post by bombshell »

Hi, is it possible to send control change messages, to change loops on&off from an outside sequencer to the GCP and/or the GCX.
i read in the manual that it surely receives program changes, but i'm trying to avoid having to make a preset for every single variable.

You should have no problem doing this. Page 14 in your GCX Manual shows the CC numbers to use for Loops and/or Latching Switches, as well as the CC numbers for Momentary Switches.

thanks for the reply!

i saw that, but wanted to make certain that the GCP would respond to them as well, so that it will reflect any changes that occur.

I may be confused on this, but it's my understanding that the GCPro, being a MIDI Controller, will not process, or "respond" to, incoming CC messages, other than to pass them through to other MIDI devices. Given that, an incoming CC Message from an external controller will pass through to the target MIDI device, but I do not know if it will also activate/deactivate the GCPro IA Button associated with that particular CC number.

i've checked a few times in the various menus, obviously including the MIDI menu, and cannot find anything about a link or slave mode setting.
i have two GCP's.
one is a newer voodoo lab version. i have not tried on this unit yet.
the other is a DMC GCP, running firmware 1.02.

do i need to upgrade the firmware to gain that functionality?

Sorry, yes this was added later. The older Ground Control Pro will need an update. v1.10 and up will have the Link Mode.
The newer Ground Control Pro should have this already, I'd bet that it is running v1.13.

Feel free to give us a call or write to info@voodoolab.com for current pricing and availability on getting an update chip for your older Ground Control Pro.
