Trouble Powering my DR-1000 Series Wireless System

Hi guys,

I am currently looking for a power supply to work along side my Pedal Power 2+ to power some of my higher current eating devices; namely my Boomerang Phrase Sampler and my Digital Reference DR-1000 wireless.

Right now I am looking at the Pedal Power 4X4. It looks like I can use a current doubling cable to work with the Boomerang. However, I'm not sure the power supply can handle the wireless even if I were to double the current with the two 12V outputs on the 4X4.

Here's the SPEC. for the wireless:
DR-1000 - 12 VDC @ about 1 A (what it says on the stock power supply)

Is the PP 4X4 going to work for me or should I try something else? Thanks!

I don't have any actual current draw specs on the DR-1000 receiver so it may have to use its original power supply. Combining the two outputs using a Current Doubler Adapter on the 4x4 will give you up to 800mA.


Exactly which model Boomerang do you have? What else will you be powering? A Pedal Power 2+ may be able to cover this setup if you use it's Courtesy Outlet to power the receiver.

I'm also planning on plugging in 3 Boss pedals:
-Boss CS-3
-Boss PS-6
-Boss SD-1

That is a good point about the extra rear outlet. I would just love to not have to worry about extra adapters if I can help it and not deal with daisy-chained effects, if you know what I mean.

I suppose its the receiver that will be the decider. I cannot say for certain that 800mA will cut it, but if it were to work with a 4x4 it would be by using a Current Doubler Adapter connected to both 12V outputs.

The Boomerang Phrase Sampler III can be powered from from any High Current 9V Output on a 4x4 OR from a Pedal Power 2+ using Current Doubler Adapter connected to outputs 5 and 6 with both DIP switches set to Normal.

The Boss pedals can each be powered from any 9V Output on a 4x4 or from any output on a Pedal Power 2+ with the corresponding DIP switches set to Normal.

It certainly does! I will keep that in mind. I totally forgot about the high amperage channels in the PP2+. I will factor that into my plan.

Actually, I do have one more question about how current works in a system like this. Am I doing any harm to the power supply or my wireless if I end up giving the wireless too little current to draw from? Or will it just not function while its plugged in?

No harm will come from having too little current available. The Pedal Power Outputs are protected. The device being powered can behave unexpectedly, but will not be damaged. Some devices just simply won't work at all or might shut down unexpectedly, or may have some diminished performance characteristics.

I've searched around but cannot find anything that definitively states what the actual max current draw would be for this receiver, so you will be on your own to test that out if you go with the 4x4.

Well, I did finally find an answer to the question. After talking to Digital Reference, Audio-Technical, Guitar Center, and then Audio-Technica again... It turns out that the DR-1000 series wireless MOST LIKELY runs off of 12 VDC at less than 200 ma of current, I guess we'll see. It seems odd to me that Digital Reference supplied a 1A power supply for something so small, but I won't argue.

Anyway, I just picked up a Pedal Power 4X4 and I believe it should beable to do everything I need it to. Thanks again for everything!

It is not uncommon at all for a manufacturer to use one power adapter that covers most, if not, all their product line. No need to stock a 200mA, 400mA, and a 1A power supply if the 1A will work for anything up to 1A.
The bummer in this is that most manufacturers then go so far as to print the product with markings that match the total output capability of the power supply rather than the actual demand of the device... It does make matching the correct power supply a bit easier for the masses, but I always appreciate when the actual current draw is at least listed somewhere.
