Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some help on gear recommendations and wiring for my ideal rig. I currently own six stompboxes; Boss TU3, Crybaby Classic Wah, MXR Talkbox, MXR Phase 90, MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe Delay, TC Hall of Fame Reverb, and MXR Stereo Chorus.
Ideally, I'd like to find a way to rackmount the Phase 90, Hall of Fame Reverb, and Stereo Chorus, and run them on/off via a pedal controller. Additionally, I usually run a stereo rig that splits via the Stereo Chorus to two EVH heads. I'd also like to find a MIDI controller (like the Voodoo Lab Amp Switcher?) that I could channel switch both heads simultaneously from.
From what I've found, I believe I could do everything I want to via the Voodoo Lab Amp Switcher and PX8, granted I could be wrong and am completely lost about how I would wire it up. I know that I would want to run the Delay, Reverb, and Chorus through the effects loops of both heads, and run the Phase, Wah, Talkbox, and tuner in front of the amp heads.
I'd greatly appreciate any input about what gear I would need to achieve this and how I would go about wiring it.
Cheers!
Kyler

Re: Amateur Needs Help with Gear Recommendations
Hi,
Firstly, to maintain stereo and run the stereo chorus through the PX8 you will have to use 2 audio loops. Also, the chorus will have to go last in the chain on the PX8.
I know with the GCX, Voodoo Lab can convert 4 or all 8 loops to stereo loops, however I'm not sure about the PX8. I don't believe they offer a conversion on that unit...... Although I may be wrong.
The GCX may be a better all in one unit that would do what you want.... Along with the ground Control pro It'll change effects and amps, at the same time. Regarding wiring through 2 effects loops, if the chorus is the last in the chain on the GCX or PX8, you would be using 2 loops. In this case one loop would go to one amp FX loops, and the other audio loop would go to the other amp FX loop, thereby maintaining stereo across the 2 amps.

If you are looking to have everything go into a rack, then the GCX would certainly be the better choice. It is a rackmount device to begin with, and it can have four or all eight loops converted to Stereo. The loops are all independent, so any combination can be used for front end effects, FX Loop effects, and Function Switching.
The HEX is suited well to rack setups or pedalboard setups, but it has the one independent loop and five loops that are pre-wired in series. HEX has no stereo option unless running two units at once.
The PX-8 Plus would be better suited to a pedalboard based setup where it is both the switcher and the controller. It has eight loops in series with an Insert break between Loops 6 and 7. There is not a stereo option for PX-8 Plus.
I hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the help!
I have decided to go the GCX/ GCP route! However, I am still lost about how I would wire this up. Please see my sketch and notes on the GCX worksheet below, and let me know what you guys think!
Thanks much again,

Re: Amateur Needs Help with Gear Recommendations
It all looks good to me, you will have to order a GCX with a stereo mod on loops 5 thru 8. John Clark would probably be able to help there.
As regards channel switching, yes you will need to account for that on the GCX
