PX-8+ and my Orange TH30

Post by TV_Brains »

Greetings everyone,

I have a Voodoo Lab PX-8+ and an Orange TH30. The amp has an FX loop built into the amp so my question is whether or not I can incorporate this into my setup. My setup is as follows (I will leave out my tuner and wah for convenience's sake)

Loop 1: Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive
Loop 2: Xotic Sp Compressor
Loop 3: MXR 10 band EQ
Loop 4: Boss NS-2 Noise Gate
Loop 5: MXR Analog Chorus
Loop 6: MXR Phase 100
Loop 7: MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe Delay
Loop 8: MXR Reverb

I would like to have my modulation effects (loops 5-8) in the fx return and loops 1-4 in the fx send. Is this possible to use with the PX-8+? If not it's not the end of the world but I would love to take advantage of the amps fx loop now that I have an amp that has one.
And any advice on change that can be made to how I have my pedal board set up would fall upon open ears.
PS I will also be adding the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher to MIDI control my amp's 2 channel switching for presets incorporating both channels (clean and distortion) so if that changes anything I might as well run with the assumption that this will be included in my question. Thank you for your time.

The PX-8 Plus has a split between Loops 6 and 7, so using that you could run your Delay and Reverb in the effects loop for sure. There is not a way to separate Loops 1-4 from Loops 6-8.

Personally, (not just a bias due to making a switcher that isn't split 50/50 ;) ) I would bet the Phase 100 and Analog Chorus would be better in front of the amp anyway.

To set this up you would do the following...
1. Run your Guitar to the Input of PX-8 Plus.
2. Run the PX-8 Plus Insert send to the Instrument Input on your amp.
3. Run the Effects Send from your amp to the Insert Return on the PX-8 Plus.
4. Run the Out from the PX-8 Plus to the Effects Return on your amp.

Let us know how you like it!

Wish I had seen this earlier ;) I will have to wait until Saturday when I'm at band practice where I have more cables to toy with. I appreciate the response!

With all of this considered is there a way to use the Noise Supresser (Boss NS-2) in a way that I can use the insert between loops 6 and 7 and still use my amps fx loop? Would this just involve adding in the input and output into the respective steps? I already put my NS-2 into the insert and it works just as well as having it on the loop which frees up loop 4 (another pedal can be added  )

If you previously just had it patched in a loop or right in the Insert, I'd try it out either directly before the instrument input of your amp or directly after the Effects Send of your amp.

Where is the noise you are trying to suppress coming from?

From both the overdrive and compressor pedals.

Cool, so either routing option will catch those pedals.

Try each one and let us know how it goes!

Just finished trying out the FX loop set up (finally) and I'm impressed. The delay and reverb really stand out more so the delay. Thanks for the tips!
