GCX / mute send for parallel routing / question

Yes. I do use them one at a time, John. It's the reverb, delay clash that I'm seeking to resolve and the only thing I could come with was "parallel" everything.

Something you wrote in a previous post has me curious:

"The reason I feel I need parallel routing is because of the bad interaction of reverb into delays. The delays get wiped out and if I were to put the G major at the tail end of the signal chain; whatever flanger, phaser, or tremolo I use might sound real funky post delay."

If I'm reading that correctly, you have your reverb placed ahead of your delays in your signal chain. If I'm wrong, just ignore the rest of this post, but if that is how your signal is routed, have you ever tried swapping them out? Most everything I've read about signal routing and effects placement recommends putting reverb after delay in one's signal chain, so in the event you've not yet tried that it might be worth your while to give that a shot.

Yeah, I kind of knew that to be the best order. I have options like using the internal delays and reverbs in the G major 2 exclusively and setting it up to simulate what my dedicated delays do, along with reverb, all via MIDI attached to presets. Or, use Instant access to access individual delays to complement reverb presets, all of which are viable.
That would leave me with four individual delay stomp boxes that I would use anyway. If placed before the G major 2, the activated signals would mess up what the G major sees as an incoming signal. Flangers, choruses, and anything else would sound off because of say a Carbon Copy delay. If I used the G major 2 strictly for reverb then I see that option working. ( Reverb after delay) It's all a matter of trying things out to see. But I hatched up the parallel idea because I've used it before for some different reason and it worked pretty good. I remember using Y cables to split the clean direct signal, but as per my earliest post, I was searching for a less messy signal splitter to get me where I needed to go.
Thanks for the idea, sometimes one tends to overlook the obvious when things get complicated.

Here is a routing using the delays with each one in parallel which will allow any delay to "spillover" when muted. I cannot say for certain that the delays will not pick up some switch noise since its a somewhat barbaric way of switching them
(I'm not sure how you are already using the GCX Loops so I'm just going to use the four or five for these examples, but use any loops you have free.)

1. Pedal Board Guitar Out to GCX front panel Guitar In.
2. GCX rear panel Guitar Out to G-Major 2 Input.
3. G-Major 2 Output to Mixer Channel 1 Input.
3. GCX rear panel Feedthru to GCX Loop 1 In.
4. GCX Loop 1 Send to Delay #1 In.
5. GCX Loop 1 Out to Loop 2 In.
6. GCX Loop 2 Send to Delay #2 In.
7. GCX Loop 2 Out to GCX Loop 3 In.
8. GCX Loop 3 Send to Delay #3 In.
9. GCX Loop 3 Out to GCX Loop 4 In.
10. GCX Loop 4 Send to Delay #4.
11. Connect the Output of the G Major to Mixer Input "1".
12. Connect the outputs of the delays to Mixer Inputs "2-5".

GCX Loops 1-4 selects between Delays 1-4 and only ever allows one at a time to get signal.


Here is another routing that basically puts all the delays in series, but if you only activate one at a time you should be golden. This routing uses one more loop but only requires two mixer channels. This will not have the spillover between delay units but can have it in a controlled manner for the currently active delay.

6. GCX Loop 1 Send to Delay #1 In.
7. Delay #1 Out to GCX Loop 1 Return.
8. GCX Loop 1 Out to GCX Loop 2 In.
9. GCX Loop 2 Send to Delay #2 In.
10. Delay #2 Out to GCX Loop 2 Return.
11. GCX Loop 2 Out to GCX Loop 3 In.
12. GCX Loop 3 Send to Delay #3 In.
13. Delay #3 Out to GCX Loop 3 Return.
14. GCX Loop 3 Out to GCX Loop 4 In.
15. GCX Loop 4 Send to Delay #4 In.
16. Delay #4 Out to GCX Loop 4 Return.
17. GCX Loop 4 Out to Mixer Channel 2 Input.

GCX Loop 5 is the Input Mute for the delay path and Loops 1-4 select Delays 1-4. Multiple delays can be enabled, but they are in series with each other so things could get crazy if you aren't using presets to select the active delay.

first off... thank you for putting your time and thought into this! I think that's what I was looking for.

Well, I tried the first model you had up; John.
I absolutely like it! The G major 2 coming in alone on one mixer channel and the four delays on their own channels as well. The mixer allows me to dial in any input volume level that I like plus the reverbs and delays are distinct that don't cut each other out. I dare say that mixing pedal delays with the TC modulations, vibes, and tremolos are new found options. In addition, even if I don't go wet/dry on certain nights, the sounds are terrific on a stand alone amp. I'd would also have to try this out on the amp's effects loop... to see how that would sound.
After chasing the routing thing, I'm happy that I wound up here. This added a new dimension to my playing enjoyment, even if it's a barbaric way of doing it.
